The Surf 94.9

WVCO, The Surf, signed off at midnight this past Sunday. For sometime I and a partner have been involved in purchasing the station. It has been a long, tedious and complicated process due to legal matters and then further complicated due to the death of the sole stockholder. However, it is our intention to finish this process and return it to the airwaves as soon as possible. We do not anticipate this process will take too much longer....at least that is our hope. In the meantime, I have placed Ted Bell on the air at our station in North Myrtle Beach, WNMB, and he can be heard there in the interim period. For the record, we had nothing to do with it going silent. The action to go silent was the choice of the current licensee.
Bill. WNMB, North Myrtle Beach.

Bill,

First, let me say it is a pleasure to be writing to you.

When I've traveled to Myrtle Beach, I've always made it a point to tune in WNMB. When I took my last trip to Myrtle Beach last year, I airchecked as much of WNMB as I could, seeing as I live in New York, and can't hear the station. I've also enjoyed WVCO.

I've just read you saying you plan to keep the Beach Oldies format on WVCO. However, won't the Beach/Oldies hybrid on that station take listeners away from WNMB? Are you changing WNMB?

Radiokid, When the FM goes on-air, we will essentially keep WNMB as it has been for the past decade. It will continue to be "community" station with its "oldies" format. It has always worked very well for us. I suppose there's always a little crossover, but the Surf will be what it has been, which is Beach Music and Classic hits. For example, you will hear the Beatles on WNMB, but probably never on the Surf since most true Carolina Beach Music fans hated the "British Invasion." Also, as bear in mind, it is our intention to bring this acquisition to completion, but like anything else in life, "it ain't done until it's done." Hopefully within a week or two it will happen.

Bill this is a wonderful opportunity and I hope you can pull it off. Looks like you have enough signal and certainly have knowledge of the market to pull in the "beach money" just hope you have some strong management.

Bill,

I'm verry happy to hear that both stations will continue with business as usual. Thanks for the info.

My next question is: Will either WNMB or WVCO ever get online streaming? This way, I don't have to miss them.

With 94.9 currently off has anyone been able to get WWBD or WWSX in? I know WWSX comes in fairly well going sound of Murrels Inlet. Just wondering.
