The Trump Administration rants about ABC News And NBC, Says They Should Lose FCC Licenses

All true here one wonders what happens when unfavorable reporting on Iran is coming from the inside how does the White House and the FCC reacts after they ranted about going after media outlets through license threats over this very issue.

What happens is there's an immediate campaign from the president and even Dan Bongino to attack the credibility of the person who quit.

So now there's someone "in the media" who parrots the government talking points. He's not a reporter or in news, but he's on the radio.

That brings up what I said earlier. Reporters need independent verification of what they report. It's all sourced to someone. Some of those sources are inside the administration and the pentagon. What the government is trying to do is shut down all of those sources, so the only source of information on this war is the president. Then the question becomes how truthful is the reporting? Is it in the public interest to wage a war using taxpayer money, and the only source of information about that war is the president? Biased reporting isn't just about the media. It's about where the media gets its information. So if the only source is biased, then the reporting will be biased.

Somebody needs to sit the man down and explain to him that networks do not have licenses, only stations, and that just a handful of network affiliates are actually owned by their networks.
And those O&O stations are in the very top markets, making up as much as a third of the U.S. ADI populations.

True on all counts and also we have to remind the FCC head about that every time. The last time a TV Network lost their Broadcast license was in the Philippines under the presidential administration of Rodrigo Duterte in 2020.
Two of the networks in Venezuela lost their licenses when the now-neutered socialist dictatorship of Chávez and Maduro took them over. This is in addition to closing more than half the radio stations there.

The similar but even more brutal government of Nicaragua has even closed Church operated TV and radio stations.

He wonders why nobody likes him or reports what he wants. He just keeps on attacking reporters. It's not how to win friends or influence people:

Attacking reporters isn't going to change the fact that this is an unpopular war.
You know that a huge percentage of the population finds the OTA networks biased, and Trump is just vocalizing this sentiment.

I realize that, it just seems that he has made the facile assumption that either networks are licensed, or that all network affiliates are owned by their respective networks.

Which a FCC commissioner should know, even if not the chair. (My point being that Carrtoon is only giving the idiot-in-chief's rants more credibility by going along with the deception.)

So what you're saying is that this country's president wants to act like the man he arrested.

You know that a huge percentage of the population finds the OTA networks biased, and Trump is just vocalizing this sentiment.

He's vocalizing his personal opinion. Not unlike the opinion of Maduro.

So what you're saying is that this country's president wants to act like the man he arrested.
No, I am saying that the events in the Philippines are not unique.

A significant percentage of the population does believe that the 3 OTA networks that have daily newscasts are significantly biased, both in the style, writing, omission/inclusion of news stories and in the content of their talk shows.

I can't even watch those network's entertainment shows because they are peppered with jaded promos for their late night talk shows. All Trump is doing for "us" is speaking with a louder voice.
He's vocalizing his personal opinion. Not unlike the opinion of Maduro.
Or FDR, for that matter. Or look at how various presidents attacked or allied with the "yellow journalism" if the very late 1800's and early 20th Century.

And Maduro and his idol did not criticize local journalists and media outlooks; he imprisoned the reporters and nationalized the networks.

A significant percentage of the population believe in the first amendment. Nobody forces them to watch OTA networks. If they don't like it, they can change the channel. The president doesn't determine what TV networks say. Neither does the FCC.

There is no fairness doctrine in this country. God bless America.

I can't even watch those network's entertainment shows

You're outside their target demo.

And Maduro and his idol did not criticize local journalists and media outlooks; he imprisoned the reporters and nationalized the networks.

This president has already says he wants to charge them with treason, punishable by death. He's more extreme than Maduro.

And there is no law against disliking and opposing the focus of the only 3 English language OTA networks that do regular news broadcasts, all of which are felt to be biased by a huge percentage of Americans.

It's been about a decade since Trump seriously participated in politics. We should also know he deals with hyperbole to make a point..

The constitution gives the networks the right to report whatever they want, and it protects them from a tyrannical president and FCC from interfering.

There is no law preventing other companies from doing regular news broadcasts. They choose not to do it.

Fine. Let him retire and let someone younger run the country.

But calling attention to the lack of "fair play" through hyperbole and verbal jousting is a good way of making more people aware of this.

Age bias, anyone?

But calling attention to the lack of "fair play" through hyperbole and verbal jousting is a good way of making more people aware of this.

He's not "calling attention." He threatening the death penalty. His FCC chief is threatening license revocation. They are very obvious about it. That is more extreme than simply stating an opinion. People don't need to be "made aware" of something if you say they already know it.

Once again, the opportunity is there for anyone else to compete with a better product.

Age bias, anyone?

He attacked Biden's age. Now the shoe's on the other foot.

Again, I clearly see that as hyperbole. Trump uses that device often to make a point.
His FCC chief is threatening license revocation.
But the whole Commission has to vote on any action, and some aspects are beyond the Commission's jurisdiction. Again, speaking out calls attention to the underlying issue as perceived by the red half of the country.
They are very obvious about it. That is more extreme than simply stating an opinion. People don't need to be "made aware" of something if you say they already know it.
If just one "awareness" occasion were enough, P&G would have stopped advertising Crest around 1955.
Once again, the opportunity is there for anyone else to compete with a better product.
Yet it is obvious that, today, nobody is going to start a new OTA TV network. And ABC, CBS and NBC are too entrenched to do anything other than a very slow "sea turn".
He attacked Biden's age. Now the shoe's on the other foot.
He attacked Biden's mental deterioration brought on by poor ageing. That is different.

Again, I clearly see that as hyperbole. Trump uses that device often to make a point.

You realize you can be arrested if you or anyone else threatens the president with death. It's not hyperbole. It's madness.

Again, speaking out calls attention to the underlying issue as perceived by the red half of the country.

You keep throwing up this mythical statistic of "half of the country." Just because they voted for this president doesn't mean they agree with everything he says or does. We will see that in November.

Yet it is obvious that, today, nobody is going to start a new OTA TV network.

They don't have to start a network to do a national nightly news program. They won't do it because they know they own stations in mostly blue cities.

He attacked Biden's mental deterioration brought on by poor ageing. That is different.

It's not different. This president's condition is far worse. It was bad in the first administration, and his cabinet knew about it.

Yet it is obvious that, today, nobody is going to start a new OTA TV network. And ABC, CBS and NBC are too entrenched to do anything other than a very slow "sea turn".

Today the FCC approved the Nexstar Tegna merger specifically to address the power of the networks:

WASHINGTON, March 19, 2026—Today, the FCC’s Media Bureau approved the sale of certain local broadcast TV stations from TEGNA to Nexstar, with certain conditions Nexstar committed to in the record. The Media Bureau found that approving this transaction, with those commitments, will empower these broadcasters to better serve their communities by investing in local news and reporting. The transaction will also enable these broadcast TV stations to counter the growing power that national programmers have amassed in recent years.

The question is: Will the media bureau do a follow up one year later to assess the investment made in local news and reporting? No.
