The Trump Administration rants about ABC News And NBC, Says They Should Lose FCC Licenses

A significant percentage of the population does believe that the 3 OTA networks that have daily newscasts are significantly biased,

3 English language OTA networks that do regular news broadcasts, all of which are felt to be biased by a huge percentage of Americans.
We went from a “significant” percentage of the population to a “huge” percentage.

If there was a huge market for an “unbiased” national newscast why has CBS News been declining in the ratings since the new anchor took over? If there was a huge market for this why hasn’t Fox News, with all its resources, provided a national 30 minute nightly newscast for Fox owned and Fox broadcast affiliates to air? Just as many Fox broadcast stations run Fox News Sunday.

If there was a huge market for an “unbiased” national newscast

The fact is that nightly news is obsolete. The president's obsession with it is because of his age and his disease. It has nothing to do with what a "significant percentage of the population wants." The truth is a significant percentage of the population gets its news from other places. It has nothing to do with political bias. It has to do with the people want what they want when they want it.

While the president and the FCC are trying to force their ideology on broadcast TV, the population has already left and is streaming what they want when they want it.

Both are roughly synonymous in this case. Is "huge" sgnificant? Is "significant" large? This is an argument in semantics.

Fox was set up as a marginal network, without news and with just two prime hours and little daytime content. It's more of a support for the use of its video division that is into new media, too.
Just as many Fox broadcast stations run Fox News Sunday.
And compared to CBS, ABC and NBC, what is that in terms of percentages.

is Late Night TV also obsolete?

You realize you can be arrested if you or anyone else threatens the president with death. It's not hyperbole.

That would fall under the definition of "treason". His definition is laughable on its face and proves how little of an education he has actually had.

While I (mostly) agree with your arguments with @davideduardo, I think we all must recognize that Mr. Trump is highly in awe of the Russian leader and may, if unchecked, seek to close down Internet access in the U.S. like what is being done in Moscow now in the not-too-distant future. Beyond the President's not following the law, this may be the biggest reason why we should be protesting the right-wing takeover of the OTA media and why we should be supporting things that appear to be mortibund like shortwave and long wave radio.

Here's what I'm seeing: If anything, the like the internet. But they want to own it. That's what happened with TikTok and X.

They aren't shutting down individuals on the internet. They don't want companies to ban or censor individuals. So it's different.

But there have been successful efforts in the past month to quash some dissenting posts against the President on Tiktok which is now owned by one of his wealthy allies, Larry Ellison. To me, that, along with what is happening in Russia, is flashing a bright red light that shouldn't be ignored.

You know that a huge percentage of the population finds the OTA networks biased, and Trump is just vocalizing this sentiment.
Yeah, if they aren't praising and worshipping Donald Trump and the Republican Party is must be biased. Hegseth said he wanted "patriotic TV" that wouldn't criticize the war or administration. "The Iranians are giving up, praise Donald Trump". Nope. It's not North Korea yet.

Absurd. Trump has proven in many instances that previously used saying of "keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer." This has helped him do so significant things like taking the control of the Panama Canal away from China, reversing the government and economic decay in Venezuela and numerous other things that benefit the nation.

Being in constant contact with Russia has likely kept them from further involvement in various conflicts.

As to closing the internet, you are making this up.

There has been no take-over of OTA media by the government. For every Ellison there is a Soros.

The Western Hemisphere has never had long wave radio. With a few exceptions, like the VOA. TWR, HCJB and Radio Habana, it has never had international shortwave; local shortwave is 99% dead in our hemisphere. And in the rest of the world, shortwave is nearly dead... local and national stations are mostly gone and world services are few now, and very reduced from there peak where they did exist.

You are beating a dead horse.

There is a difference. Ellison gets cooperation and support. Soros gets investigated.

Don't expect Audacy to get the same treatment as Nexstar if it applies for any waivers. On the other hand, Jeff Warshaw will likely get FCC support for his waiver requests because he's currently suing Soros.

I hate to pile on here, but I have noticed that Ted does tend to immediately gravitate to the worst case scenario with everything the idiot-in-chief does.

It's a really good validation of Lance's oft-stated (but rarely honored) desire to keep politics off of RD, except when they directly affect the business. Unfortunately, with human nature being what it is sometimes we can't help ourselves. And some of us are more easily motivated to post even in the absence of a realistic connection to our industry.

Sure, going after practically everything Carrtoon does is fair game. He is making a legacy for himself by attacking the broadcast news media. Sh*t-for-brains doesn't like the media either and will turn on someone he praised two days ago because of something they said this morning. Congress has been a willing participant in the attempts to shut down public broadcasting and rein in the Fifth Estate, but they are only able to do that role because their majority shares a party affiliation with the head instigator.

But Ted was wrong ... and honestly, David, your response was worse because it went even farther down the rabbit hole. If I cannot trust a long time friend who is also an admin/moderator to honor and enforce the rules that make this a radio discussion forum, who can I trust?
