third sports station

Can somebody tell me how Schopp and the Bulldog get so much time off? Who knows who is going to be on today, but Bulldog was off yesterday, Schopp was off last week for at least a day.

They are constantly having these one off day offs. But, then they get more vacation and seemingly sick time than I take in five years.

If the station thinks they are better as a team (and I do - I won't listen to either of them solo), why do they do this?

Bowling on the radio really slowed down by 1979. Ray Hoemke's "Kegler's Korner" was cut way back to once a week on the weekends on WWOL. A google search interestingly brought me here:

Good to know the memory isn't totally shot...

Richard in Allentown, PA

Maybe it should have been called Bowling for Blind People.

Yes, bowling on the radio!

Don't laugh...wasn't it WEBR as late as the 60s had "Kegler's Korner" in the early evenings?

Richard in Allentown, PA (ex-East Aurora)

Good catch, Richard. Indeed, I do remember the name "Kegler's Korner." I must say I never listened to an episode. But I always thought its was an interview show featuring conversations with area bowlers. My old station did actual play-by-play of bowling competitions. If "Kegler's Korner" did so, too, then I stand corrected. In any event, I doubt we'll hear a show of either variety ever again.

Bowling on the radio could be a good idea with the right sound effects.

I like the option of a local talk show 12-3pm. Rich Genzler is doing a good job.

Really enjoyed Paul Peck filling in for Rich one day last week. He was prepared and sounded like he really enjoyed doing the show.

Brad Riter? Not so much. Not many guests, no desire to have people call in, just him talking to his buddies. I was disappointed.

Yes, I believe that was the case...it was, what, 15 minutes long? Interesting to wonder if today's all-sports format would have a regular home for a bowling chat.

Richard

Riter disappointing, and not as well prepared as Paul Peck. Who would have ever predicted that? ::)

You mean his buddies like Bob Gaughan, who knows as much about sports as anybody I've ever heard on the radio. Whose brother is the presenter for Andre Reed at the Hall of Fame election, which had just happened at the time. Who always has strong and entertaining opinions? Buddies like that?

Yeah, I'd much rather hear what Chuck from Cheektowaga has to say about the Sabres power play, followed up by Lou from Lackawanna saying the same thing..........Or maybe an interview with an athlete, so we can hear "we need to learn from this experience, and get back to work tomorrow" just one more time.

And now Mike is out "sick." This is very strange to me.

It's unbelievable actually! Howard Simon has a ton of vacation as well. Any idea on how much these guys make per year? I've never been in the radio industry, just an observer/fan and am curious. Seems like a great gig!

It must be the standard in the radio business, because I thought I was the only one who has never been in the business (just a radio junkie) who posts on this board............BTW, Bulldog was off again yesterday. I would not be surprised if they haven't gone a full week in 2013 with them both being on together. And, it's not even vacation time yet.

Why are you so obssessed with this? Understand that these guys work six day weeks -- sometimes seven days -- during football season. From training camp in July to the holidays, they're lucky to get one day off a week. I kind of think it's unfair to criticize them for taking time off now. And it's really offensive to question someone who calls in sick. Their time off is between them and their employer and is frankly none of our business.
