"Thunder" back...on 94.5 translator in Pinellas??

Admittedly the Orlando stuff is a reach, but I think really aggressive cost cutting is in the cards at CC this year, so look for some out-of-the-box solutions...

Maybe, we should petition the CC brass to Washington for cost cutting, eh?

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

I seem to be losing 105.9 about now due to interference and some time last night their transmitter went off air again and when it came back on the signal seemed weaker

Interesting comments from Big Rig on Thunder's Facebook page. He's replying to posts about the signal and being very vague except to say "stay tuned" and it's "gonna be a big year for us". Makes ya wonder what the real plan is over there for the future of WFLA and the others in 2013. I just don't get it.
What do you think, a 96.7 translator in the Holiday/Tarpon Springs area soon? ???

Moving transmitter facilities soon according to more Thunder Facebook posts. Also remarks of a Pasco-area signal coming soon as well.

Yesterday afternoons tropo did a number on my favorite stations in North Pinellas. Thunders 94.5 was completely covered up by a soft jazz or ac station, didnt hear any liners or ID. I would welcome the Tarpon/Holiday translator if Thunder is what they plan for it. Needless to say their Tampa translator was unlistenable too. True Oldies 106.3, whose signal has been actually worse since some "antenna adjustments" last year, was beaten up even more by the station down south.

Scanning the dial WXXL was coming in like a local along with a bunch of other Gulf area stations.

As far as an ID, HA!!! Talk to our friends over at WTSP and ask why they ID as "WTSP Tampa St. Petersburg"? It is NOT Legal. Their COL is clearly St. Petersburg, NOT Tampa.

It happens more than you know.

Back when the station was WLCY-TV (and even in its earliest days as WTSP), print ads for the station identified channel 10 as "Tampa-St. Petersburg", even though channel 10's COL at the time was Largo, which they had to give during station identification; they could use "Tampa-St. Petersburg" in promotions, but by law, they had to use "Largo" on-air. Back then they had an inferiority complex with Largo (preferring the larger Tampa and St. Petersburg), and today they have an inferiority complex with St. Pete, preferring to list the more-recognizable Tampa first, despite running afoul with the law this time around.

By the way, does WFLA-TV still use "WFLA-TV / WFLA-DT" in its legal IDs, even though they could now only use "WFLA-TV"?

Anybody check what the legal status actually is now that they moved their tower and transmitter into Hillsborough county in the Riverview area???

Moving a transmitter doesn't change your legal ID unless you also applied to change City of License.

That may be necessary sometimes based on how far you want to move, but probably not in this case.

If and when WHFS hits its stride and makes in roads on WDAE....watch for one or both translaters to be used for 620. Until then they will try to be the fly in the ointment for the rock listener.

Cases in point -- WTOG and WTTA are licensed to St. Petersburg and WCLF is licensed to Clearwater, yet they all use Riverview.

Heard a liner on WFLA: "All the music of The Eagle without the commercials".

Big deal. So i get to hear "Sweet Home Alabama" one extra time...except if I'm going east or west I have to change stations.

What's been up with Thunder as of late? My signal for the past week on 105.9 has been weaker.. did they condense transmitter power or relocate? ???

I experienced the same thing this past Friday and Saturday while doing errands and driving around in and near downtown St. Pete, the USFSP and old S.E. areas; normally the Buzz comes in about 60 percent of the time in traffic with Thunder 105.9 coming in around 40 percent of the time but on these two days, it was strictly the Buzz out of Venice/Englewood w/o a trace of Thunder 105.9 and late Friday afternoon, the WARO out of the Ft. Myers/Naples market was giving Thunder 94.5 come competition.
