Time for O&A in Atlanta

Am I the only one that thinks it's just a matter of time before DAVE flips?

I would bet that 99.7 flips if anyone. If 92.9 flipped yet again everyone would stop bothering to tune in to see what format they have now. The O&A/Stern wanabee type shows are getting tiresome and nobody cares anymore, if 92.9 decides to go that route it will just perpetuate a has-been, irrelevant and insecure status. The 92.9 frequency has used up it's flipping allowance over the last 10 years and listeners will not feel comfortable leaving the dial there to try new formats if this keeps up. 99.7 on the other hand might be considered refreshed if it flipped but that's another story.
If Dave continues and develops the current format they could become a stable respected station, I dare say the new Peach!

I was thinking that safe, sweet, female friendly type shows are getting tiresome and nobody cares anymore. I guess I'm the last man in Atlanta that likes edgy juvenile humor in the morning.

I like edgy talk, but O&A finally went too far even for me. I’ve turned the dial a few times when they became fascinated with excrement recently, but I figured it was no big deal with a show like theirs.

They crossed the line for me when they aired audio from a nearby chopper pilot who was describing the crash and deaths of his colleagues in that tragedy in Phoenix. Adding silly sound effects to that clip was just plain wrong. I’m done as an O&A listener. Screw 'em. Oh well, there’s always xl comedy on channel 150.

O&A have a great fane base here in Atlanta. When the comics come out that are a part of the show, lots of hardcore fans come to see them and often sell their shows out. They are also on the most listened to station on the XM platform in terms of listener qty. and time spent listening. I admit that it would be odd to hear them on Dave but if they steered the station more toward the middle as far as their gender demo. it could work. I'm always surprised by how many female fans they have. When I interned for the show, they were constantly talking about how big their XM listenership was in the Atlanta area and how surprised. They were by it.

Wow 500 people fill a comedy club nightly when an O & A comic comes to Atlanta? How do you know it is O & A fans selling it out. Most of these comics do the morning show milk run when they are in town. Should we also credit the New Morning X and Mayhem in the AM for selling out these shows?

Nah, O&A are not good. Could care less about Stern anymore too.

THE best move IMHO that CBS could do is put The Adam Carolla Show on in east coast markets like Atlanta. I think its the best morning radio show around. I am a little annoyed that CBS forced Danny Bonaduce on the ACS, but Adam's got the best rap for morning radio today. 92.9 could use something like the Adam Carolla Show for the boost in ratings. However, CBS would have to time delay it for the following morning (eastern time) since it is a west coast originated show.

I'm not saying that at all, but being a part of the audience that is there and watching how many people stick around because the comic in question takes pictures with the fans and the fact that most of those people are wearing O&A shirts or are referencing O&A moments says a little bit. It's rediculous to dismiss that people won't like O&A just because it's Atlanta when most of the people that are listening to the radio like crude humor and aren't going to take the time out of their day to participate in the archaic arbitron system. People on this board and in the industry are so convinced about what Atlanta or any market for that matter thinks. Honestly, the general listener doesn't care what's on the radio unless it outrages them.

Something tells me a day old morning show wouldn't work very well.

I nominate this as the dumbest post of year. So you think a radio station in market #9 should broadcast a one day old tape delayed radio program during a time of day that people typically tune in to find out what's going on in the world TODAY. Keep up the good work!

Has another pair of equally demented guys (Bob & Tom from classic rocker WFBQ/Indianapolis) ever been on the air in Atlanta?

I didn'y hear them when I visited your fine city two weeks ago, but I don't know if they're on a suburban station which can't be heard in Atlanta.

Also, why doesn't Atlanta have an oldies station?

Bob & Tom failed in Atlanta.

Atlanta does not have edgy humor or oldies because Clear Channel Management decided we didn't need those formats here.

These are some great posts here.

O & A would kill in this market bnecause 50 people show up in O & A shiirts to see a comic.

Adam Corrola would kick butt syndicating a day old show.

And now Clear Channel is too blame for not accepting Bob & Tom's edgy humor? Weren;t hey replaced after anemic ratings with the Regular Guys who were far more edgy?

Not what I'm saying. Bob and Tom were horrible, and I was happy when TRG were brought back. I'm saying that Clear Channel management is directly responsible for canning TRG, killing oldies AND they ruined Christmas!
