Time ticking for FREE FM, JACK or BOTH

CBS still owns "Oasis" and "KOAI"...

I believe The Oasis' Old Dial Position has gone Movin' so There are a lot of people out there who CAN'T afford those HD radios-to pick up KMVK's HD2 audio. Would be so great for CBS to put KOAI (The Oasis) back on the air-at 105.3

No Flippin' Way! I'd love to see KOAI (The Oasis) back on the air at 105.3; And K-Rock would would be on at 100.3. The Oasis started first at 106.1-which is now Kiss-FM, Ironically it started out as a new age station-which was popular 10-15 years ago. It was good music to hear in Doctor's Offices. New Age simply just fade out as C-Jazz tries to morph out into playing R & B. I believe if they want to get into the arena, they need to leave the soft rock/R&B over to K-VIL or KRNB.

I heard a rumor today that The OASIS is coming back and will take the place of FREE-FM.

How reliable is your source? That would be awesome if it is true... 105.3 is one of the strongest signals IMHO. I have a feeling that CBS would be willing to let everyone go with the exception of Russ Martin and Jagger. What would you do with them? K-ROCK 100.3 with Jagger in the AM and Russ in PM and active/alternative rock the rest of the time? Move Jack to HD-2? Could work. 8)

I agree with the Oasis at 105.3 and moving Jagger & Russ to the revised JACK FM station.
Can the rest at FREE FM, I can see a September 4th, Tuesday the first day (Monday the 3rd is Labor Day).

Hey Pugs and Kelly, better get your beach ware ready or your legal briefs!

hOW LONG HAS 105.3 STRUGGLED? Awhile. Pugs and Kelly won't be going anywhere and neither will Russ. Its the way it has been and the way it will remain. Russ brings in the $$ for some unknown reason. P&K have been discussed to death here and the reason why. The big question is how does Gavin kep his job? It appears CBS doesnt have a compass.

CBS still owns "Oasis" and "KOAI"... Why change to the Wave?

It doesn't own the KOAI calls...Cumulus does. Cumulus snatched them and put them on one of their Arkansas properties as soon as CBS changed 107.5's calls from KOAI to KMVK last year. Also on an another Arkansas Cumulus property are the KYNG calls, which Susquehanna originally snatched when 105.3 changed calls (originally on the now-gone 950 Denison-Sherman; Cumulus moved them when 950 signed off permanently).

CBS would have to get Cumulus' consent to change one of its FMs to KOAI-FM.

Let's rephrase that:

Cumulus would have to give their consent to surrender the KOAI call letters...CBS would have to get the FCC's consent to get them.

CBS ought to put Smooth Jazz on 100.3 on build it around a morning show hosted by a talent like Tempie Lindsey.

CBS ought to put their K-Rock format on 105.3. But who does mornings? Russ or Jagger? Russ & Jagger? Tough call as they would both be great. Maybe both could be kept, but at least 6 songs an hour in afternoons. In that mode, I'd have Russ mornings and Jagger afternoons.

With all that said, I don't think Cumulus will do CBS any favors in the call letters department, especially if they thought that two stations were in play for format changes, and that one might be aimed at them.

After the dismal rating for FREE FM here in Dallas could they be on the verge of flipping? Or could the smart moves of Dan Mason that started with Free and now look to continue with the failed JackFM format be coming to DFW?

I would look at the following options for CBS in Dallas:

Live 105.3 flips back to Country to go after both KSCS and the Wolf which are both very vulnerable right now.
Flip 100.3 JackFM to Modern AC to better compliment Movin 107.5 and call it 100.3 "The River."

All types of Rock are dead in DFW...the Rock audience has evaporated over the last 15 years to nearly nothing

Another option is to buy the intellectual property of Casa 106.7 and put it on a full city signal. Goodbye 97.9...Casa would easily double it's shares and enter the Top 5

OR

Buy the Intellectual property from Service or Radio One and move one of those Urban ACs to a full market signal...another Top 5 performer

No, no, no, you have it all wrong!!!!

105.3 will go to a News/Country format. You'll get a news report followed by a country song followed by a news report.. and so on.
100.3. will go to an easy metal format. They're getting some classical musicians to take some heavy metal classics and record them as easy listening pieces.

Seriously, posts like this are just utter foolishness unless someone has some real insight into either station.

That's why I asked "The Laffer" how reliable his source was. People can post anything but if you can't back it up it is just a waste of everyone's time. ::)

Russ is on the record time and again that he will NOT move to mornings. He's got the perfect gig now...Makes tones of money...gets to sleep late...and is Lord of that dumbass castle they call a show over there

EXCELLENT! Russ' inflexibility would no doubt make CBS' decision vastly easier in a Martin v Jagger decision on which top talent might remain. Not a smart attitude to cop in this day and age, but hey....he's RUSS MARTIN.

BTW: If a talk show host makes "gets to sleep late and make tones of money", then he must be listening to a music station at night as he slumbers. To whom does the all knowing and powerful RM gives this lucrative endorsement?

I just want a Smooth Jazz format to come back, preferably in the 106.1 format instead of the 107.5 format.

Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street" is NOt smooth jazz..............

Hold up home boy...you don't talk bad about the GREAT...AND I MEAN GREAT Anita Baker.
Here music is a cross between jazz and r/b..She fits the format perfectly. Janet Jackson does not fit a smooth jazz format....

Or Sade....ugh... :-\

Give me "real" jazz...New Orleans, Memphis, St. Louis, Delta Blues style....

Stuff to stomp your feet to, move your body and soul, and have a sip of
whiskey if you so desire. Not some sappy crap to drink a $100 bottle
of wine and cheese to, and tell your neighbor about the new BMW you
just bought.
