Time ticking for FREE FM, JACK or BOTH

What about Anita Baker? She sounds like Belle the Blue Bell Cow.... Mooooo Mooooo

Or Sade....ugh... :-\

Give me "real" jazz...New Orleans, Memphis, St. Louis, Delta Blues style....

Stuff to stomp your feet to, move your body and soul, and have a sip of
whiskey if you so desire. Not some sappy crap to drink a $100 bottle
of wine and cheese to, and tell your neighbor about the new BMW you
just bought.

Agreed that Sade is not "real jazz" but I loves me some Sade! I fell asleep on the sofa this evening and just woke up tp Cherish the Day by Sade playing on Watercolors (XM) and it was a whole lot better than what was prolly palying on MOViN or Jack. ;D

Yes, there is some debate among Jazz radio circles as to what really
constitutes "Jazz". The traditional Jazz formats didn't have wide enough
appeal (and they almost sounded like NPR stations), but the "Smooth Jazz"
approach that included artists like Sade (who IS great) and other vocalists
almost became an AC alternative, an upper-end urban radio alternative, etc.
That would work here.

And, for the record, tyring new concepts is good! I think Clear Channel's
"Americana" approach is a fresh spot on the dial. There's sure as heck nothing
else like it. Maybe the next wedge to drive in is one of the "everything that's rock"
format.

Thoughts?

I just want a Smooth Jazz format to come back, preferably in the 106.1 format instead of the 107.5 format.

Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street" is NOt smooth jazz..............

Hold up home boy...you don't talk bad about the GREAT...AND I MEAN GREAT Anita Baker.
Here music is a cross between jazz and r/b..She fits the format perfectly. Janet Jackson does not fit a smooth jazz format....

Co-sign on that! Who in the hell do he think he is talking about Anita Baker like that? Don't ever disrespect a legend like Anita Baker.

Okay... well, what about Toni Braxton then? ;D

stuff to stomp your feet to, not some sappy crap to drink a $100 bottle of wine & eat some fine cheese, and telling your neighbors about the new BMW you've just bought.

Or, How 'bout this: telling your family you've got a big house far away from the city, or perhaps a a high-rise you've just bought in Downtown or Uptown, and Telling your friends about Your Caddy you're driving to work everyday. That's the Music.

But you MIGHT want to check out Watercolors on your XM or Hear it on Music Choice, which is available on ComCast (In Houston) or TimeWarner Digital Cable (For the rest of Texas). There you won't hear Phil Collins, Celine, or Sting.

XM music channels are also available to DirecTV subscribers.

The same is true for AT&T Home Entertainment.

Oh and Troy... Despite it being against all odds, take a look around now. Some folks do like Phil's music. Myself included. ;D

We now resume regular programming.

Sorry Jeff, I don't care for her either. ;)

I am a HUGE Genesis and Phil Collins fan, but truthfully, in my opinion, Phil's music doesn't belong on a smooth jazz station either. It should be on KVIL, along with Sting and the other artist mentioned above.

I'd still have Anita Baker and Toni Braxton on Smooth Jazz though..............yet I'll say it once again, if smooth jazz does come back to DFW, please have the 106.1 format instead of the 107.5 format. 106.1 took chances and played stuff I will never hear again over the air. That station had me buying LOTS of new music such as Horizont and one cool song from Level 42, as well.

I do miss my Oasis, but I liked the earlier version better.

Anita Yes....Toni....HELLL NOOOO. Toni Braxton is an R&B singer. Thats what killed the Oasis...wayyy to much R&B. Stick with the smooth jazz, the new age and sprinkle in some electronica. Have Musical Starstreams on at 10pm on Sunday nights.

I agree with you Jay...the 106.1 KOAI was 1000000 times better than the 107.5 Oasis.

I concur as well.

I hate to bring this up, but as an infrequent visitor to this forum, I'm not aware of lots of what you guys talk about. But what is this lawsuit mentioned often in regards to Pugs and Kelly??

I'm forced to listen to 105.3 at work and I really enjoy Jagger. P&K have gotten really dull and Russ Martin is so tired it's unbearable. What are RM's ratings by the way. Has he slipped along with the station. He's a total bore to me.

What? You don't enjoy band talk, guitar lessons, chaw, car alarms, the martin mansion & how much money russ has?? I understand that his work with Operation Kindness and the Foundation are great things but I agree the show has lost something over the last year or so. I do love the morning show though. Jagger, Dean, Jasmine and Mondo are GEEEEEEEEENIUS! ;D

I like Jagger & Co as well...much better than anything else on that station...but they're ratings are in the pooper too

I'm warming up to Jagger's morning show. Are the ratings that bad?

Never understood P&K.

I listened to Russ years ago, but after a couple months or so of daily listening, the shtick got old. Lately, he seems really, really tired.

satradio: Someone posted on the P&K lawsuit recently. If you enter "Pugs Lawsuit" in the search field, I bet you'll find it.

Thanks for the kind words about my opinion on 106.1 versus 107.5 in the smooth jazz format.
I too miss Musical Startstreams at 10pm. My wife and I loved that show! I think "The Wave" down in Houston still
plays that show in that market. Not 100% sure though.

Does anyone else surf over to Art Goode's Jazz Trax website and listen to his music? It is a good alternative since we
don't have The Oasis anymore on the radio, unless you have HD Radio.

I am not in the radio biz, just a fan of local radio. But is Russ as great as he and his cronies claim to be? I used to try to fight through it, just in case I missed something, but I can’t take it anymore. He sucks really bad, he is going to news at 4:00 p.m. now. I guess he thinks it is his God given right, but I think he is by far the worst on the station. The others I can tolerate.

What I would give for the Ticket to move to FM. Those guys make me laugh and entertain and that is all I want
