Time ticking for FREE FM, JACK or BOTH

Yes, but KTDK 104.1 Sanger has limited reach to parts of Denton and Collin County...a C3 that can't really move closer due to second adjacent spacing with KVIL 103.7 and KKDA-FM 104.5. It also suffers from getting run over by KWOW 104.1 Clifton-Waco or KKUS 104.1 Tyler in southern Tarrant and Dallas Counties. In my office on the Collin-Dallas county line, it's not receivable on a radio in the building (1310 is, with a lot of noise from all the computers). So, it is really hard to consider it as a FM simulcast available to most of the market.

Even the Cowboys don't consider it a factor since the games are having to be simulcast on KDBN 93.3 to provide a full market FM simulcast.

I just realized last week that this forum posts ratings for markets. I saw that 105.3 is like 25th. I caught a bit of Russ Martin last week. And once again, it was like the same show eveytime I catch it. Someone was in the studio telling Russ how great he is, and then they went to a phone call from Gavin where he was yelling at Russ for some prank Russ had played on him. I swear everytime I listen it's the same thing. The gags with Gavin are so old and tired. It was so funny when Howard Stern would toy with upper management because it seemed the butt of Howard's joke or comments were truly angered and annoyed. When RM does it with Gavin, it sounds just like a bit..each and every time. I can't believe how Russ continually boasts about his ratings when the station ratings are in the crapper. Who cares if you're the #1 guy (as he claims") on a lowly rated station. I don't know anyone that listens to him. I do however know people who listen to Jagger and yes..even P&K. They seem to have no problem getting people to call in on thier shows, so like Russ, they do have fans. I want Russ to go to mornings and really try to compete instead of empty boasting. I'm doubtful if he can bring in the ratings he claims. His show is awful and just plain boring.

Russ has his fans, but now they are pretty much counted on one hand. You hit the nail on the head,he does the same ol garbage, runs jokes into the ground,"dead air"(which at times is far more entertaining than his Gavin bits).A couple of years ago I said he was Peaking. Now the slide is in progress and its gaining momentum. CBS,However will not do a damn thing. They have no skills in programming anymore with the "Free debacle""Movin-Losin","Jack is in the infirmary"overall. So Russ knows and he is sitting cushy right now. As long as idiots buy spots, he'll stay.

This is a sub-thread I know better than to get involved in, but I'll suggest one point: Russ's audience is aging. I don't know what the specific 18-24 male numbers are, but that's where his strength has always been. But move ahead 7 years now from 2000-2007, and those original listeners are edging towards 30, and the new crop of 18-24's are married to their iPods and other distractions. The Hot Talk format is not what it once was, but I'd guess it's due more to attrition...guys get married, get real jobs, etc, and they end up as better candidates for The Ticket, WBAP, KLIF, etc if they even still crave talk. We talk about Chapman and Skip Murphy "aging" with their audiences by changing stations or direction; maybe that's the solution here.

Yes, and there's the "everyone in the studio laugh hysterically for a full 30 seconds" episode after every mildly amusing bit.

And that's the most annoying thing. It's as if the "hysterical laughter' is on queue. I swear they push a button when Russ says something this is supposedly, and I do mean supposedly, funny. It sounds like the exact same laugher everytime.

i've always pitied the engineer on duty during the ross show -- he gets like 200 opportunities EVERY SHOW to have a heart attack, thinking they're off the air.

My problem with Russ's show is it's always been about Russ. With Rush and Sean you know they're going to talk politics. With the ticket, you know they're going to talk sports. (And yes, while they wander into guy talk, they usually return to sports PDQ)..

With Russ, it's about Russ. And his show ends up being like any of our lives. Sometimes it's tense and funny and entertaining. And sometimes it's mindnumbingly boring.

The former is fine. The latter sucks. And there's a lot more of the latter than the former sometimes...
