TV Show Cancellation Thread (including ending ones)

then and now it's about the demos advertisers will pay for the most for

I think at least part of it - back in the day - was CBS's concern that their reputation as the "Tiffany Network" might be getting besmirched by the 3 cornpone "rural" shows. And those shows had had years of success before being cancelled. Last Man Standing is just one show - not necessarily indicative of a trend.

I think anything less than network TV would not be considered by the show's producers, but who knows? If it's the right deal, it's always a possibility.

‘Underground’ Canceled After 2 Seasons on WGN America

“Underground” will not return for a third season on WGN America, the network announced Tuesday.

“Despite ‘Underground’ being a terrific and important series, it no longer fits with our new direction and we have reached the difficult decision not to renew it for a third season,” Tribune Media President and CEO Peter Kern said in a statement.

Kern cited the changing TV landscape in Tribune’s decision to cancel its last remaining scripted series, saying: “As WGN America evolves and broadens the scope and scale of its portfolio of series, we recently announced that resources will be reallocated to a new strategy to increase our relevance within the rapidly changing television landscape.”

Until I was watching Titanic on CMT on Saturday I forgot CMT shows new episodes of Nashville. That show was on ABC. This is Nashville's second season on CMT.

That's a little different. First, the show fits with CMT's format, and second - I don't remember that it was a huge hit, so they probably got it relatively cheap.

Not a cancellation per se, but...

‘Bachelor In Paradise’ Suspends Production In Mexico: “Allegations Of Misconduct”

Warner Bros. has suspended production on Bachelor in Paradise in Mexico due to an “allegation of misconduct,” a WB spokesman says.

In a statement, Warner Bros. said: “We have become aware of allegations of misconduct on the set of ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ in Mexico. We have suspended production and we are conducting a thorough investigation of these allegations. Once the investigation is complete, we will take appropriate responsive action.”

Warner Bros. did not immediately return calls for an explanation.

The fourth season of the summer reality series was set to return Tuesday, August 8, with a cast comprised of former fan favorites “and controversial characters” from previous seasons of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, according to the show’s website.

Prior to the Warner Bros. statement, an Instagram post from “AprilAnnStyles” included a photo of the cast seemingly gathered at an airport, noting “Was sad leaving Puerto Vallarta…”

I hope it's cancelled - one Bachelor every year is more than enough as it is. It's beat a dead horse year after year, with falling ratings. Then the Bachelorette, that Bachelor Pad thing, and Bachelor in Paradise...I would much rather see sitcom reruns.

I'd have to think all of the cast would take less money if this is to happen.

I'd think the chances of such a deal would be more likely if the show needed to get to 100 episodes so it could properly syndicate. Since it's already over that and in syndication, I have to wonder if Tim Allen would really be willing to work for a lot less to keep the show going on CMT.

I guess we'll soon know.

I don't want them to do it. CMT is not in my package and I can't just pay to just get CMT. I have to spend the entire amount for all the channels. And even though I signed in to watch on their web site, I was told CMT is not in my package and I'm still blocked. Why are they storing ALL this information?

Which means I have to wait for Hulu to give me another free month (they already have but it won't give me any benefit yet) when "Nashville" finishes its season. I saw the first half of the season with my first free month. Now in the case of this show, it is in syndication, so two years from now, all the episodes should be available on the channels I get now.
