UNCONFIRMED: Ed Brantley OUT at WIVK

I'ts Pirkle's call. He's the licensee of 100.3. He's the only one that can change the call letters. Don't forget, Johnny has more than a little history with the WNOX call sign as well. There is more value going forward with WNOX.

If Citadel wanted to protect their branding, they shouldn't have used bankruptcy as an excuse to break the lease. Now if they want to write JP a big check, he might be a sport about it.

Nah. The WNOX call letter are of no importance to anyone but Citadel. They even paid for a book to be written about the station and those specific call letters (after all, we all know that there are many "WNOX"es).

I would say that Pirkle is in the process of coming up with some new calls. They are making no secret that they're going straight up WIVK's tailpipe with a "Top 40" country format. That's all Pirkle jr. could talk about for the past 10 years and now he's out there getting a new Stetson and having some boots made.

Time for a serious prediction:

When all is said and done, the only winner will be Mr. Pirkle. With the possible exception of those who don't have a dog in the fight, everyone else is going to end up feeling used and disappointed.

I do not believe the opera is over, and the fat lady is hinting at several different songs.

The Great Bobby D said it best: "Never wrestle with a pig. You just wind up all muddy and the pig has a good time."

Time to get more popcorn and watch the rest of the show.

Of course, the only problem is oldies gets the shaft again, just as WOKI shows a nice trend. But I understand that it's 2010 and you can't sell a format with 40-to-50 year old music on it.

The thought of another country station on FM is less than thrilling. The thought of K-Love on 100.3 is just plain terrifying.

I know we're only 180 miles from Nashville, and we're Kenny Chesney's old stompin' grounds, but yet ANOTHER country station? Really?? Wow. We sure need that. Let's see... just on FM, there's 93.1, 96.7, 107.7. Yep, I'd say we need one more to make four. Yawn.

Yes, I'll say it. I'm still sad over losing 93.1.

If something really does happen, I just hope he does something more exciting than country.

In all fairness, there are rumors supposedly planted by the parties involved that 100.3 will either stay with Citadel, and Monday's press conference is a great big steaming pile of PR, or JP will take it back and hire Ed, one or two other guys, or LMA it to Journal, South Central, Horne, use it to bring Clear Channel in, or give it to JPJr to hire a team of cute, blonde jocks and salespeople. The format will be country, talk, CHR, AC, polka, or replays of Jeff Foxworthy.

The surest way to get hurt is to believe one of the two parties involved and invest in what they're saying.

I'm not believing a damn thing until at least August. Anybody want to bet against me?

Only if he shares the winning with Mr. Pirkle Jr.

But I'm sure he hasn't even thought of that. So, I guess Pirkle Jr. has already started making plans to send him off to "sunny Florida" before the big move.

Tennesee Cowboy has made the most sense so far. If WNOX is hyping a change to a weaker frequency, I'll hand it to them for making it sound bigger than life. If on the other hand they are staying where they are and announcing a big car giveaway...oh well.

I know there are some new posters on the board (I am relatively new after the demise of R & R which was very reliable), and some of them showed up right after the Citadel Bankruptcy which makes me believe they are very close or victims of Citadel. They could have inside info, or is Citadel leaking “misinformation” just to confuse the other radio groups. Does anybody know if LMA agreements have to be in the “public” file? If so has anyone seen 100.3’s file lately? I remember another stations’ new manager looked at our files when I was in the Louisville Market. I watched him on the lobby security camera from the production room’s monitor. I remember having to call the security service to ask how to make a copy his visit. It was only time I have ever seen any look at them. Later I found out that they were 3 or 4 years behind and he needed some “help” in straighten out their files. Do LMA‘s have to be filed with the FCC? It so then someone who works the FCC site regularly could find out what is going on.

LMAs have to be in the public file and filed with the FCC.

I have never seen WNOX's public file, but I'm certain if someone were to take a peek lots of questions should be answered. And, it is a PUBLIC FILE so anyone can walk in off of the street and ask to see it without an appointment or fear of being refused as long as it's during regular business hours.

It's too much fun speculating on the old stuff!

Isn't 98.7 licensed to Petros or Wartburg or something? Citadel's upside is that WIVK can help offset its declining dominance of Knoxville by becoming the dominant station in Morgan County, too. HHH would need to do Swap 'N Shop the last hour of his show, though. And add a couple of extra 423 area code lines so the people in city-grade coverage won't have to make a long distance call to sell their old lawn mowers.

Correction: One of my co-workers informs me that 98.7 is actually licensed to Oliver Springs.

Their chamber of commerce motto is probably "Oliver Springs, gateway to Wartburg!"

For people with way too much time on our hands, here is your LMA agreement.

https://licensing.fcc.gov/cdbs/CDBS...?appn=101264600&qnum=5030&copynum=1&exhcnum=1

So, if that's the current deal they still have 658 days left. Or 15815 hours if they're billing hourly.

If that's the truth, what is the "big announcement" coming on Monday?

Let the new speculation begin.

The prevailing rumor (which I still don't necessarily buy) is that the LMA was canceled as part of the Citadel bankruptcy.

I was told that Pirkle and Citadel came to an agreement for what he was owed since the filing, as Citadel hadn't paid him since the filing date. I was also told that Pirkle was "happy about where things are going forward" and took that to mean that he had worked something new out with Citadel. I certianly didn't consider that might mean he was taking the signal back, but others here seem sure that the 100.3 frequency won't be with Citadel in August.

Someone else posted that advertisers were being told of this supposed format/signal change for 100.3 and 98.7. That would come as news to some of their advertisers.

I think this whole thing is a bunch of half-truths and speculation and nobody posting here knows the whole "real" story.

The LMA WAS definitely cancelled by bankruptcy court.

http://www.kccllc.net/documents/0917442/0917442100423000000000004.pdf

About halfway through all the legal drivel you'll find the Oak Ridge FM contract rejected going forward along with some leases, employment contracts, consulting deals, etc.

Citadel can come back to the table and start a new LMA if they and JP wish, but the previous one is dissolved and finished.

And Citadel has begun notifying at least some clients of the coming changes. It seems like NY has told Knoxville they don't need that signal. With WIVK down to a 15.4 in the latest monthly, I would be nervous if I was carrying a big list on Old Kingston Pike.

I just had lunch with lurker on this board, nice to meet you finally BTW, if what he's telling me is true the market is about to become a very active place with many of the "pros" looking for very high places.
