Voluntary License Surrender: KBMB 710

Just a guess, but I have to wonder if Vic Michael, or one of his sock puppets are behind this...broadcasting's version of Sanford & Son 🤣

Vic doesnt really haver any sock puppets.. Steve silberberg died and i havent seen him do a dean with Jan Gray lately.

Juist sometimes between his for profit and non profit companies

Without a paired translator that could reach the Valley, what value is the license? This frequency needs to vaporize.

Radio Insight also reports KBMB rescinded their license cancellation and now requests a Silent STA.
"...looking at options to restore service as soon as possible.." Guess I could ask Nurse Jeff to motor up to the Rock Springs Cafe and hang a drop wire antenna from the Gremlin. That should provide city grade service to Black Canyon City.

Cancellation notice filed on Halloween. 🎃 Ancient Modulation remains kinda spooky.

The the biggest issue in trying to find a new site for this station its that they are the only thing licensed to Black Canyon City. They would at least have to keep 5 mv/m daytime coverage of their city of license. Only way to change their city of license would be get another station that has city grade over Black Canyon City to "backfill" the town. But the station would have to come from a multi service town. They could change to a class D AM and not be required to cover Black Canyon City at night. But the other issues are contour protections to KDWN Las Vegas on 720, KSPN on 710 in LA, KIDR Phoenix on 740, and new AM applications on 700 at Yuma, AZ and Silver City, NM that have never been resolved for some reason. So its a tough channel to do much with even going to a class D without night protections. It could in theory be move south and the KFNX Cave Creek site could work to diplex from and keep 5 mv/m daytime coverage over Black Canyon City, but not sure it would be worth all the expense to rebuild it to end up with not great coverage. So my guess is this is another one that will end up dead on the vine.

Good points. I would also add that, if memory serves, KMPC (now KSPN) in Los Angeles raised a lot of objections when KUET first went on the air and then again when KMIA got the power raised. While I had to laugh at the claims KMPC was making (the only times you could hear that station in Phoenix were just after sunrise and just before sunset), I would think that KSPN might have made the same objections again had KBMB tried to move its site in any way. (For the record, all of that is moot now--the license was canceled again in October of 2024.)
