Andrea you took the words right out of my mouth, right on. Scooty the fact that you choose Jeffs countdown over a podcast or XM radio says alot, I do agree I to would love to hear more pre-63 countdowns but I'm pretty sure that the suits at CBS-RADIO have the say unfortunatly it would be great if the listeners could vote each week on the countdown year the wanted to hear.

I wasn't kidding about that part - the 2 Marvelettes songs were played yesterday morning during Sue O'Neal's show as part of the weekend Hall of Fame feature.
 
Now CBS FM needs to lead the charge to get The Marvelettes into the rock and roll hall of fame; amazingly, the group that gave Motown it's first ever Billboard #1 single on the pop chart is not in the hall alongside the Vandellas and the Supremes;
Percy Sledge with his one hit record and a jazz artist, Miles Davis are in the hall,but the groundbreaking Marvelettes?
no....and I think it would be a great idea for CBS to campaign to get Motown's FIRST girl group their proper moment in the sun;
I meann, "Please Mr.Postman", "Playboy", "Beachwood 45789","Too Many Fish In The Sea","Hunter Gets Captured By The Game", Don't Mess With Bill", "My Baby Must Be a Magician" ,c'mon you've GOT to be kidding me that they're not in;
it would be a GREAT(and high profile) feather in CBS FM's cap if they got involved in correcting this monstrous oversight
 
There are a ton of artists who are not in the rock n' roll hall of fame who should be and a ton who are in the rock n' roll hall of fame who shouldn't be. It is all a political.
As an example, Bobby Rydell had 18 top 20 hits and is not in there and should be. He is one of many artists who are consistently overlooked.
 
I hear you, but I think the fact that The Marvelettes delivered Motown's first ever #1 national pop hit adds some weight to the arguement;
it was unquestionably an historic moment and door opener

Bobby Rydell??! ::) I don't think his music had quite the lasting impact and influence for him to deserve induction into the Hall.
 
When it comes to the rock n' roll hall of fame, it's a numbers game my friend. Any pre 1970 artist who had 15 top twenty hits should be in there. Those artists stood the test of time and consistency. When athletes are put into sports hall of fames, it is about what they did when they were playing and not some idiot's perception of that athlete 30 years later. Statistics don't lie. If a music artist had that many hits and dominated his era, it makes zero difference if the artist is played today. If you used whether an artist was played today as criteria then you are giving too much power to the retardos who program radio today. WCBS-FM INCLUDED AT THE TOP OF THE LIST!!!!!

The people who vote artists or groups into the R&R Hall of Fame are, like me, so-called music nerds, and we place a premium on those artists or groups that make a substantial impact in the years and decades after their recordings were first released. I honestly can't think of any contemporary group or artist of any genre that can trace their lineage back to Bobby Rydell! :) Jackie Wilson or Sam Cook, certainly, but Bobby Rydell? Don't think so!
 
Influence should be a consideration;
Motown was a clear influence on the early Beatles, whose first recordings ,these days, would have them labeled as a cover band; recordings that included "Twist And Shout","You Really Got A Hold On Me"
and "Please Mr.Postman" by The Marvelettes...
 
Influence should be a consideration. Total amount of TOP 20 HITS should be a bigger consideration. What songs and artists are played by radio stations today should be zero consideration.
