Nashville is a bigger market, but not that much bigger. As Atlanta is already represented on the national map (and is in the same
general region as Nashville - lower Appalachian foothills), there was more space in the lower MS River Valley region for a temperature market so that's probably why Memphis got the nod.
The readability of these very general national maps has more to do with who gets a temperature listed than "what's fair" does. Which is why Philly and San Diego are often overlooked (and Hartford is NEVER shown), yet Kansas City, Salt Lake and Portland, OR are always on those. And how about Bismarck, ND? It makes the Weather Channel's maps while many cities that posses several suburbs larger than Bismarck do not.
