WEGO 980 in Winston-Salem

What in the world has happened to their signal (11/2 and 11/3). Has a real raspy buzz on it (like line noise). It isn't line noise though. I have heard it in numerous places, cities, etc. Awful.

Savage is too much of a double-edged sword; he repels as many listeners as he acquires. I wouldn't advise WEGO to pursue that avenue. As for WSJS, it really doesn't matter what they do or don't do, at this point. Its obvious the staff and in-house management are just going through the motions. They know what's coming.

I'm amazed they haven't blown up the ship already. They have 5 signals in Winston with two live & local programs and a whole staff....all of them were pulling in 0 point something's before Curtis pulled the plug on the Arbitron. When I hear Billy Joel on WSJS on a Saturday morning it makes me very sad. What a great station it once was.

I've been told that old man curtis likes to do these things in stages. its my understanding that SJS is approximately where WZTK was when that station was in stage 3 of a 4-stage disembowelment.

And WZTK actually was pulling in numbers.....by that assessment WSJS should be on about stage 10

I've said this before, Curtis Media should have moved WSJS to 101.1, and they still have the chance to do that, and if you want something at 600 AM?, either sports or spanish.

WEGO is simply intensively local in morning drive with good and compatible syndicated programming throughout the day. It appears to be winning with listeners and advertisers. Why is this so hard for broadcasters to understand ?

Hearing more local content on WEGO. The "tech" report, sports, news and traffic and weather are all different voices. I've heard they will be adding another locally hosted daypart, too. Talk about bucking an industry trend.

To disgruntled; Thankfully station manager Michael Carbone worked for Curtis Media, so I am pretty positive he learned what NOT to do very well from that experience. Go Michael! Break a leg buddy!

WEGO's FB page is pitching a Carnival cruise hosted by Flynn who's leading an Americana series. Haven't heard anything on air about this but it looks big dollar and is linked to Glenn Beck somehow. Anyone know the deal on this promotion and why Rush Radio or SJS wouldn't have jumped in first ?

Unless something's changed, WBRF is still the flagship of Wake Forest sports.

The only thing I know of that has changed on the Wake Forest network was losing WZTK (now WYMY after the original WYMY on 96.9 changed formats and calls last month) and its powerful signal as an affiliate.

Glenn Beck is a mastermind of circumventing any exclusivity clauses in his contract. He's getting millions from Premeire, has his own Blaze network, has side deals galore, all he has to do is slap the word "freedom" and "liberty" on anything and hoards of right wing talk junkies will lineup to doll out money. He is a brilliant businessman.

I'm sure there's some fine print that lets him do stuff with other stations.
