Weigel Buying W27EA-D in Cleveland/Akron

Wonder if somebody at WVIZ was reading this board. earlier before this post was watching stuff on 25 and, low and behold, checked to see if the "future" stuff would show up and it was working so I knew what was on after the program I was watching.
There is an issue I have with the WVIZ feeds for WKSU and WCLV (25.7 and 25.8). Neither can be heard as there is no audio.

I haven't tuned in for a couple of weeks [busy season] but last time I had WVIZ on, the WKSU/WCLV audio was breaking up really bad; cutting in and out. Strange because the TV channels were all fine.

Weigel has just submitted an application to replace W27EA-D's Jampro directional antenna with a Dielectric non-directional antenna. That should help with reception on the east side along the lake. Not sure how much of a difference it will make in other parts of the viewing area, though.
Why do they have a directional antenna?

Why do they have a directional antenna?
That was the same pattern that they had when they were on RF 16 as W16DO-D. When the stations were repacked to their new frequencies, I think they were required to keep the same pattern and essentially the same coverage area as their pre-repack frequency to reduce the chance that stations in adjacent areas didn't get displaced or create new interference with each other. In other words, to make sure that most everyone was able to fit within the reduced TV spectrum. After the repack was complete, stations probably then had the opportunity to file for an increase or pattern change to maximize coverage, assuming that they were able to do so. Media-Com probably could have filed for a non-directional broadcast shortly after being repacked to RF 27, but it wasn't in their budget to have a new antenna built and installed just to slightly improve coverage on the east side of Cleveland along the lake. Weigel, on the other hand, can afford to do just that, and they probably saw the opportunity to go non-directional, which is good, but I still don't think that it's necessary to shoot 15 kW over the lake where no one is going to watch it. A lighter null towards the NW probably would have sufficed.

I am curious. How can Weigel apply for a new antenna for a station they don't yet own? They have not taken control of 35, Media Com is still runnning it. Did the FCC grant the license transfer and then give the parties a time period to settle up and take over? I remember sales when the buyers weren't even allowed in to measure for new drapes until the FCC granted the license transfer.

So its been about a month since W27EA-D's assignment of authorization was approved. I wonder when Media-Com is going to hand the station over to Weigel? If I have to guess, it will probably be after Weigel buys and installs the much needed modern broadcasting equipment, either at the transmitter or at a new off site location. Then, with the push of a button, make the transition to whatever programing that they will carry, thus elimitating the the need to silence the station during the process.

^ I'm currently getting no signal on 35, so perhaps they are upgrading the equipment now.
Probably tropo. They're a little bit on the weaker side for me right now. WTCL-LD is also bouncing all over the place, so something is interfering with them as well. The HC2 stations all seem to be coming in normally, and they're usually the first to disappear under the slightest tropo conditions.

The poor video & audio quality is the result of the analog equipment that Media-Com has been holding onto for the last 35+ years. The only things they have upgraded/installed in the last several years were the transmitter, antenna, and essential digital equipment (encoder, PSIP generator, etc) in order to broadcast digitally. Everything before the transmitter is analog, including the STL, I which is believe is the result of the analog picture & sound. Hopefully all this will be a thing of the past once Weigel takes over and massively overhauls the station with updated equipment. I don't know if Weigel will simply run W27EA-D's operations from the transmitter site, or if they will lease out an office building and relay programming from there.

If Retro TV was seen in a proper digital presentation, I would assume that some of their programming would still look a bit iffy, especially if they are public domain prints. W27EA-D just makes them look even more retro by giving them a snowy feel. Also, I don't recall what the name was, but they did play a movie a year or two ago that was clearly from a VHS.
Just a few weeks ago, "The Son of Ghoul" played a movie that was, clearly, from a VHS tape. How do I know? At one point there were a bunch of white streaks on the screen that I recall seeing playing on my VHS machine, and accompanied by some so-so sound during that time. Mr. Ghoul made an "on-air" voiced joke about it as it went by.

As of today, 35.1 is no longer listed on Titan TV. Could this be a step closer to Weigel's acquisition of the station?

Someone has edited W27EA-D's Wikipedia article stating that it is now a Story Television affiliate as of May 6th. They are still airing Retro TV at this moment, and there are no references backing up the affiliation, so these statements are currently not true. I do believe that Story Television will be added once Weigel takes over, but not as a primary affiliation.

Gotta love Wikipedia, as virtually anyone can edit it until the article becomes suspect. Maybe May 6th is off, but Story Television looks to be a Weigel station that's relatively new (March 28th of this year). Maybe Weigel can't tread on it's current networks locked into other stations around here's subchannels -- Yet.

I kind of wish they'd keep some of the local programming (A Halloween season without "Son of Ghoul", wouldn't be the same Halloween season...).

So far the plan seems a mystery, but maybe waiting until they flip the switch on their own programming...Whatever date that may be. Call me old-fashioned, but I wouldn't be too disappointed if they brought the old "C.A.T." branding back.

A HD MeTV feed is probably what will eventually end up on 35.1, with portions of it pre-empted for local and public affairs programing, much in the same way Media-Com has been doing with Retro TV. Not continuing on with Sports Talk is one thing, and I can see why as both would be under different ownership, but I'm not exactly sure if Weigel will continue airing SOG, or even the broadcast of that church service. I would imagine that Story Television and the much anticipated MeTV Plus will eventually end up as subchannels, but nothing has been officially announced as this point. I also don't know about the future of Retro TV. That can end up on a subchannel as well, at least until the carriage contract comes to an end.

Making 35.1 a full time independent format will likely never happen due to their low power broadcast, unless they are able to get onto cable/satellite providers that can broaden their reach. It would be nice, but I don't really see that happening.

Titan TV is now showing 35.1 as Story. It looks like they are airing WW II documentaries today..
Must have just added it as I checked a few hours ago and it was still unlisted.

W27EA-D is currently on an ID slide. Retro was still airing as of 10 AM.

I tuned in last night to check it out. I'm still having the same reception issues where it will come in fine, then I get blue screen and no signal for a while. Not sure why that happens. I'm in south Parma, only a couple miles from the transmitter. I don't recall having than problem when they were on 16.
