The Ormond Beach Police Department investigators along with the state attorney have cleared the owner of any and all criminal wrondoing...So unless you have evidence proving the owner is, indeed, "corrupt", your statement is of a slanderous and libelous nature possibly subjecting you to civil liabitility should the owner in question choose to file suit. I'm simply passing along friendly advice so you are aware of possible sanctions resulting in making such careless statements public in a written forum as is on this Board. I'm just trying help you by giving you the facts so you are aware...

Bill O'Reilly was just recently added to the 1380 programming line-up. "Big John" is still on the air from 4PM - 6PM, following the O'Reilly Factor.

You didn't answer my question.......... What license is WELE operating without?

Austin,

The FCC database shows that WELE's application for renewal of license was filed on 3/18/04.
It does not show that it was granted. You *COULD* be right. That "accepted for filing" entry,
and appliocation, is the most recent document in the database.

However, that's not a guarantee that the license was not granted since it was not denied either.

The first 15 Google entries under WELE all involve complaints. They have some serious cleaning up to do
to save their reputation.

As long as that license renewal is still pending, they are legal in terms of operating parameters with regards to their license

You are right, Paul.

By the way, how are you doing and where are you located these days?

I worked for Doug Wilhite @ WSSA 1570 in Morrow Ga back in the 1980s. I can say that Doug is not a criminal and A guy who for no reason would rip anyone off. Running a small market AM station these days is tough enough, much less try and sell advertizing for one of these black holes. I actually look up to anyone who has the guts and courage it takes to try and make something like this work. Radio is in SAD SHAPE anyway you look at it. WELE may have some cleaning up to do, but as long as they try and resolve these issues then thats what anyone would ask for. I had to respond to this because as someone who was in thier late teens early 20s
who wanted badly to work on the air in a Radio Station got to do so because Doug decided that I was good enough then hes ok with me. I will admit my life and salary have been better since being out of the biz, but it was fun while it lasted.. To Doug, and his wife Sherry I wish all the best and hope all gets cleaned up soon.
Your former employee.. Rex

Yes, so long as the application for renewal has been filed prior to license expiration and the application has not been denied, the station may still operate legally even though the old license has expired and the new one has not yet been granted. It works much the same as an unlicensed new station, or "change in facilities" such as an upgrade or tower move, operating under the authority of its construction permit.

I don't think Tillery and Manning are there anymore.
Imus was dumped for a live morning show with one of the members of the show that was on WNDB mornings who got fired weeks ago. Imus gets played midday now.
The station just keeps on going downhill. It is just a matter of time before it must be sold or the present owner must just give it up. Tillery and Manning had some great ideas that went bust when they were not backed by the owner. No one there in the operation of a real radio station has a clue as to how to program or what to do. I have heard this just by listening to them on air.
The phones they had since the early 70's don't even work because of unpaid bills. It's so sad for the most powerful AM in the Daytona Area to be run down like they are.

In terms of raw wattage, yes. But actual signal reach is a different animal entirely. Both WROD and (especially) WSBB have greater coverage, despite the fact they each have only 1/5 the power output of WELE.

WELE still has one of the better AM signals in Daytona Beach, even with its DA-2 antenna pattern. The 1380 signal has tremendous "untapped" potential. Also I believe the daytime signal possibly can be "let-out" just a bit; possibly to a ND pattern while remaining 5kw... Should this ever happen, 1380 would, indeed, have the BEST AM daytime coverage in the area...

And, YES, I have left the WELE building on my own to form my own consulting firm...
