WGST back on FM - It's about time!

Someone said the station may go “rhythmic AC” at 4 p.m., which means dance music with a mix of disco tunes from the 1970s (Alicia Bridges, Donna Summer), the 1980s (Shannon, Jody Watley), the 1990s (TLC, Keith Sweat) and today (Lady GaGa, Justin Timberlake). Cox tried a format at 97.1 sort of like this a few years back and failed miserably.

when did 97.1 do that? maybe i'm dain bramaged but i can't remember exactly what they did between fox97 and the river. what did they call their rhythmic ac?

Rhythmic AC would compete with Kiss,

Would it? Kiss plays such old stuff. Their positioner is "old school R&B." I'm wondering if rhythmic AC would be closer to Majic 107.5/97.5. I don't really know.

I'm hoping The Music Man can fill us in. He knows the format.

It will be Q100 Part II with no jocks and commercial free Jams

It will be "The Best of WGST." Including, old Neal Boortz, Clark Howard and Sean Hannity shows. Listen tonight for Skip Caray's call of "Braves Win, Braves Win Braves Win!" Tomorrow its all "Newsradio 92" all the time. Al Ciraldo will be back for "toe meets leather" and Tom "The King" Hughes remembers 1983.

What happened to the question mark page? Now when I log onto the Viva site, it directs me to the Viva homepage. Was this all just to garner attention to Viva? Is Viva changing at all?

Unless Viva suddenly started playing Xmas music, yes, it's changing.

Rhythmic AC and Urban AC, despite the seemingly similar names, are very different formats. Kiss and Majic both qualify as the latter. Rhythmic AC is almost entirely uptempo pop/dance-based, with playlists that range from disco and 80's hits to current rhythmic pop (think Lady GaGa, Rihanna and Black Eyed Peas). It's essentially the Movin' format that became popular during the middle of this decade and saw varying degrees of success.

Clear Channel has recently launched Rhythmic ACs in Detroit and Miami. It's too early to tell how Detroit's is doing, but 93.9 MIA has done quite well - of course, Miami is an unusual city with regard to demographics. Whether Atlanta would be a viable market for Rhythmic AC remains to be seen.
