What happened to good mixshows on radio

I notice when I listen to radio and the mix on I here dj play the song fully then play bomb no blending or mixin period is what they do radio nowadays do radio stations still have mixshow directors

I don't know about any specific station but a large number of stations are Voice Tracked by someone in another city. Usually a 3 or 4 hour show's breaks are done hours if not days in advance. There most likely isn't anyone in the control room so songs are played in there entirely like they were put in the system. Is it economical to bring someone in the station to do a mix(s) that is a management decision.

It depends on the station. Maybe you could be more specific.

For example, WXBK has a staff of 12 mixers in addition to their regular personalities:

Their playlist has about a thousand songs, but a lot of them are just snippets used in mixes. So this may be more of what you're looking for.

Even then they have a set list of what they will be playing. They don’t just randomly start spinning records.

You must be listening to NYC radio.

I don't like that either. If you want hear some REAL MIXING: Hot 100.9-Indianapolis, V103-Atlanta, and of course, 102 Jamz-Greensboro.

And while we're talking about New York City, don't forget this guy.

Louisiana stations have some fire mixshows. In BR, Kool DJ Supamike on Max 94.1 mixes live every weekday at 4pm. DJ Bootsie also mixes 9-12 Saturday nights. DJ Dolby D is also pretty hot on the dial. He is on Q95.5, Kiss 98.7 (Alexandria), and Max 94.1. Hot 107.9 in Lafayette recently picked up DJ Chill and he does a fire mixshow every weeknight at 8. 107.9 also does the Friday Morning Breakfast Jam if you’re more into old school and throwbacks. In Monroe 100.1 got some fire mixshows with DJ Make a Move and Jigga JT. In New Orleans DJ Ro has been mixing on Q93 since the 1990s. Q93 also has the Social Shakedown every sat night 7-10pm with a whole lotta bounce music. So yeah mixshows are definitely still a thing

In some markets, mixshows are still an audience draw. In others, the rap/hip-hop format itself is on a downward slope. In the latter markets, as ad revenue declines one of the first expenses to go is the mixers.

Other markets will go for lesser priced talent to do their mixshows, and ... well, you get what you pay for.

In general, the format itself does best in markets where there is good support from clubs. And those are the stations who can afford to hire the best mixers.

I remember back in the early 90's when I lived in Lubbock, I could pick up Q93 when it was also on 1280AM. Dj Ro was a bad boy back then when he did Club 93 with Uptown Angela. Are they still married?
