What Will Be The First Song On K-Hits 104.3?

CBS has hit the ball out of the park with this one!

Great sounding station. It will become a major player in short order.

On a semi-related note, the only way Fresh sticks around long-term is if CBS believes it has a chance of snagging Eric & Kathy from WTMX. When is their contract due to expire?

I like what I'm hearing so far. I like their music more than WLS...

Not me, I prefer 60s & 70s over 80s music, but that's just me. I'll stick with WLS-FM, however I do like Eddie & Jobo in the morning. WLS-FM is weak personality wise in the morning.

Great station so far, big sounding processing (what they are using?). Sounds very vintage and 80's-like. Maybe they fired up some old Orban 8100 with a set of prisms ;-)?
The jingles reminds me of Z100, the flamethrower.

That's because the jingles they are playing are from the JAM "Flamethrower" package!

Yeah, I guess I like it because I like 70s and 80s mostly but just a little 60s.

I can't help but wonder if this will hurt 100.3 more than 94.7..

Sounds pretty good to me.....

I couldn't resist doing my own little "battle of the bands" on my drive home from work this afternoon.  WJMK versus a few of my favorite streams.  Winner (my opinion, my taste) in bold

WJMK                                           STREAM

Chic-Good Times                             Little Joey & The Flips-Bongo Rock. Rich Bro Radio
Chic-Good Times                            Johnny Cash-Understand Your Man, Radio Bop
Fleetwood Mac-Dreams           Mary Wells-My Guy, CJOY
Prince-1999                         Chuck Berry-Back in the U.S.A., WDJO (TIE)
Island Girl-Elton John                       Dean Martin-Ain't That a Kick in the Head, Martini in the Morning
Blondie-Heart of Glass             Dean Martin-Ain't That a Kick in the Head, Martini in the Morning
Manfred Mann-Blinded by the Light  The Flock-Take Me Back, My iPhone/iPod on shuffle (TIE)

Good pick! Starting off on the right foot......

Those of you who heard the Jack to CBS-FM switch in NY would've found the sweep building up to the 1:04 p.m. format switch very familiar (although our version started in 1965 and went through the entire 80s).

And the top of hour? Just replace Sinatra singing "New York New York" with "My Kind of Town" and the call letters and you'd think you were listening to CBS-FM.

Is this sweep similar to the one Sunny 105.9 in Orlando launched with (except their version started with 1966) a couple years ago?

Anyone else notice the third song on the playlist on Monday was "Right Back Where We Started From"? I guess if they couldn't play "Hit The Road, Jack..." ::)

For those who missed the launch of K-Hits, listen to it here.

Also, here's the playlist for K-Hits' first hour:
Chicago – Beginnings
The Rolling Stones – Start Me Up
Maxine Nightingale – Right Back Where We Started From
The Beatles – Twist and Shout
Prince & The Revolution – Let’s Go Crazy
Jackson 5 – I Want You Back
The Doobie Brothers – Listen to the Music
KC and The Sunshine Band – Get Down Tonight
Loverboy – Working For The Weekend
Fleetwood Mac – Don’t Stop
Journey – Don’t Stop Believing
Elton John – Crocodile Rock
Men Without Hats – Safety Dance
Styx – Come Sail Away
Neil Diamond – Sweet Caroline

By the way, in addition to "Goodbye To You," "It's The End Of The World As We Know It" and "Time For Me To Fly," one on the final "Jack" songs was "A Change Would Do You Good."

where's the 60's and motown? ? same old thing.

In answer to your question: at 94.7 WLS-FM.

This is one of the clear differences between WLS-FM and the new K-Hits. If you want to hear the Supremes, Four Tops, 60s Marvin Gaye, and most other 60s pop, then you'd better head to 94.7. Because CBS Radio is more focused on the 1970s and 1980s with K-Hits. It also leans toward rock-based hits, though not quite as much as I expected prior to the launch.

Nonetheless, although K-Hits plays the occasional (burned to a crisp) Motown title, they are few and far between there. If that's the music you're looking for then WLS-FM is one of the only places where you'll hear it.

True and K-HITS has a much harder edge then WLS-FM.

I REALLY like this station so far. Eddie and Jobo sound great and yesterday Bo sounded really good. With the exception of a few "clunky" 80's titles (and they need to watch that...you can sure hurt the credibility out of the gate playing novelty music), the songs are right on track. And don't turn the titles over too quick. The listeners of this format are compassionate about the music and don't want to burn out. Same stuff to quick will equal fear of burn out and listeners will rest the station for sure.

The post from audioguy or whatever his name is, about the processing being out of date, he/she needs to realize that the audio processing helps set the stage. At this point it's not about an open natural sound, it's about setting the mood. Like it or not, audio processing set in high gear gives an exciting sound and feeds into the energy they are trying to project.

Good luck to a station/company that is live again, with energy ONLY captured by a full live staff. This is one type of delivery that JUST CAN'T BE VOICETRACKED. It HAS TO BE LIVE to be good. Jocks with headphones on hearing the exciting processing, live phone calls pouring in, the fun stress of not screwing up because there are no retakes in live radio, editing phoners to air live, givaways, mixing, tight board work, it's what this whole business was built on that the Cumulus's and Investment firms will never be able to grasp because of the pressure, greed and dept. NO EXCEPTIONS PERIOD.

Hats off to CBS and the programming staff that put this together. If you keep this up, radio may get exciting again!!!!

And what's wrong about being excited about a radio station and a potential jim-dandy of a format war? No station in today's version of oldies/classic hits/greatest hits is going to play doo-wop--EVER. You want doo-wop? You go subscribe to Sirius XM or go on Live365. Today's listeners to the format will be very happy with K-Hits, thank you very much.

Nothing is wrong about being excited about a new radio station. With the state of radio, I'm all for being excited about radio.
That particular post seemed to me to be from a publicity memo. JMO.

Everyone seems to be focused on this being a "format war" between the upstart (K-Hits) and the incumbent (WLS-FM). However, this isn't exactly the case. While it's true that CBS is going after listeners of WLS-FM, they are aiming every bit as hard for listeners of Rewind 100.3. Musically, K-Hits still has a lot of the elements of Jack with more 'older' titles mixed in to attract fans of 94.7 and a surprising number of female-friendly disco-ish/rhythmic pop songs from the late 70s and 80s that would appeal to the folks who listen to Rewind.

Given Rewind's numbers (and recent sale), I don't think that we should discount the fact that K-Hits is every bit as much of a threat to them as they are to WLS-FM. If anything, there may even be a little more musical overlap between 100.3 and 104.3.
