Matt, WFMA came to be as a station in the 1960's, one of the things i remember as a kid growing up in Rocky Mount was the simulcast they had with WCEC-AM 810 during the day, with shows like "Club 810", "Party Line" which was a local talk show that debuted in 1971 and ran for 15 years until WCEC signed off in 1986, and others, at night they use to carry "The Music Lovers Hour", which was Classical Music with Milton Smith, in addition, Martin Zimmerman did some work there in sales and on the air, then as the 1970's came, they started doing Country which continued until the station was sold and moved to Raleigh.

Ive heard that Party Line on WCEC had the same 20 callers and they were all very extreme right wing radicals, even more towards the right than Jesse Helms If thats possible.

And WCEC went off the air in 1990 when WSAY signed on.

100.7 started out as an oldies station in the late 1980s before the change to The River.

100.7 started out as WFMA in Rocky Mount as a country station.

As a Raleigh station 100.7 started out as AC, then went classic hits.

Actually at 100.7, the sign-on stunt was Classic Hits/Oldies with a transition to AC. The stunt worked much better than expected and had more impact than the move to AC. It was then moved back to Classic Hits. The personnel changes though also prompted a change in presentation which was not a change for the better as it was more AOR with regards to production value and personality. The changes were all dictated from Birmingham, AL.

Is Curtis for sale? Seems to me that I saw something recently were there were like 12 stations in a couple of markets that were for sale. Was that Curtis or did I just dream that?

I've heard tell that Old Man Curtis turned down an offer from Greater Media. Don't know if it's true, but former 94.7 GM Trip Savrey's now running Greater Media's Charlotte operation, so I could see it.
