I thought Channel1049 flipped to Spanish? I only know of 1049 and Live105 because Kat ,who used to be on 99.1 HFS,worked there and I searched the stations for HFS jocks after it flipped to El Zol because Baltimore/DC radio sucked.

It did, but Clear Channel flipped it back because the ratings tanked.

Live 105 doesn't seem like it's going anywhere. The station has been gaining audience share for two months. FM Sports Talk only seems to be a trend on the East Coast, where people actually tend to listen to Sports radio. Live 105 might have a small audience share but they have good numbers with their target audience. Live would never flip to AMP or NOW because rhythmic sister KMVQ has already done that move. They're not rhythmic AC, they're CHR/Top 40 so CBS wouldn't want their stations to compete with themselves right?

Would not surprise me to see Live 105.3 blown up for sports. How well do they really bill these days? This has been quite a trend for CBS nationally. They just blew up one of the biggest heritage rock stations in Boston, WBCN 104.1 for a frequency swap with a clustermate (WBMX Mix 98.5, now Mix 104.1). They will now compete as WBZ-FM (98.5 "The Sports Hub") going up against a top billing sports station 850 WEEI. Something similar here would not surprise me. Hope KNBR has it's contracts secure!

Then again, CBS has handled this market differently from other major markets....

This week I was listening to Live 105 at 11 AM and I heard "How Soon is Now?". I had to do a double-take that it was actually 105.3 because I don't believe I have ever heard an 80s song (or a 90s song not by RHCP/Pearl Jam/Smashing Pumpkins/etc for that matter) on that station, ever, except during Jelli Radio.

The next few days, I've heard quite a few other golds on that station: Hot! Hot! Hot!, Girlfriend in a Coma, Friday I'm in Love, Under the Milky Way, Sweet Jane even. As well as a number of songs that they used to play but I haven't heard in awhilei.e. Garbage - Special, Peter Bjorn & John - Young Folks.

The station is finally listenable and it's about time. It seems like they are responding to Channel 92.3.

I have been told that PD David Numme has hit the bricks, jumped rather than pushed. Maybe he was not happy to be told to go that direction.

Does anyone think, say if KITS were to flip, it would go to hot talk? I understand there was a hot talk station already in S.F., how did it do here?

San Francisco still has a "Hot Talk" station - KSFO 560 AM. It's KGO's sister station, and it's usually in the Top 10 12+.

http://www.ksfo.com/

The last 3 FM talk stations here were flops - KGO-FM in the 80s, KPIX-FM in the 90s, and CBS's "Free-FM" just a couple of years ago. I can't imagine that CBS would want to try it again, unless they're willing to spend the money and effort to build a format with live and local hosts.

I was wondering what was up hearing Elastica, Love and Rockets and Depeche Mode's "Shake the Disease" on Saturday. It's definitely a nice change, I was getting tired of hearing RHCP within 2 songs every time I got in the car.

My guess is "Fresh 105.3" . That's what CBS did in NYC, Chicago, Washington DC and will probably do in SF too.

Except that Entercom (KOIT) paid for use of the "Fresh" branding a couple of years ago. I don't know if they still own the rights - they haven't really used it, except for the occasional reference to "fresh lite rock."

But the other problem - branding aside - is that KOIT has been doing the format (with tweaks along the way) for 3+ decades, and tends to kick the a**es of stations that try to compete. And they have a stronger signal than 105.3.

Don't forget K-Lite 93, KABL 98.1's flirtation with lite rock in the early 90s, and 99.7/KFRC's short and disasterous experiment with classic light rock hits a couple of years ago.

either you were listening during a countdown or a "best of all time " weekend.. or live is finally reacting to channel 923 . which plays that stuff regualrly.... live usually only plays that stuff when its memorial day weekend or for some holiday weekend type thing.

They're now calling all these 'new' old songs "Vintage Vinyl," (Hey, another nod/rip-off to the dearly departed Energy 92.7, which preceeded their 80s new wave tracks with "Vintage Beat.") - even ones that aren't really "vintage" and nowhere near "vinyl" (i.e. Oasis "Don't Go Away," Soul Asylum "Runaway Train.")

I caught "Forever Young" by Alphaville yesterday. This is awesome.

After listening to Live 105 pretty much nonstop in the past week, the only band I'd expect them to re-add that I haven't heard yet is New Order.

Hopefully in a few months, when Stoltz realizes that KREV is a bust, he will decide to flip 92.7 into an Indie-like station. I think this could REALLY do well in SF than in any other city. If it does happen with 92.7 or any station, it would be interesting to see how the other alternative stations react, again. When Indie 103.1 launched, for a few years it certainly got KROQ's attention.

But this thread is entitled, "What's Happening AT Live (105)???

Although, where is Indie 103.2 now?
Again, it was just assumption that it would work in SF.
