When will Christmas come to Greenville?

neither station has much to be proud of in the ratings even playing their own formats christmas or not
That's true, but Magic does have a little more of an edge it seems. I was just meaning that Magic seems like it stands to gain more than MY from all-Christmas.

in the diary world of arbitron and how they work to get the sample right saying "it seems" is funny. the real winner without ratings is who can generate the most advertising dollars. ratings dont matter both stations are hoping to cash in

Wow It's Christmas Already In Greenville

Magic 98.9 is playing non-stop Christmas music this morning...

MY 102.5 will be shortly according to a Facebook post from WYFF News Channel 4:

"Does Christmas music make your heart sing... or make you want to scream?
Tell us how you feel and News 4's Sean Muserallo may read your response live on-air this morning on News 4 Today.
He's live at MY102.5 Radio in Greenville as they make the switch to non-stop Christmas music."

Re: Wow It's Christmas Already In Greenville

MY 102.5's website already has "The Christmas Station" as part of the logo.
So far they are still playing their normal playlist...I'm listening to them now.

Edit: Zac & Marne just said they'll be 'flipping the switch' at 7 AM this morning...

Wow they really must've been in a big hurry to flip the switch...
They just cut-off in the middle of Pink's "Blow Me One Last Kiss" for "Rockin Around The Christmas Tree"

How ironic they cut it off during that song, we didn't get to blow one last Kiss to MY 102.5
since they went away 15 minutes earlier than they said they would. R.I.P. WMYI until Dec 26. :(

Just curious. Does anyone know of any other Hot AC's that go 24/7 Christmas anywhere close to this early?
I'm not aware of any right now.

Heck, most Hot AC's don't go all-Christmas at all. Some might the week/day of Christmas or sprinkle a few in, but not full-time before Thanksgiving like AC's or some Oldies stations do. I don't know why CC is trying to do it here.

Magic has a very traditional, "classic" all-Christmas format. I'm not a fan of the format, and won't make it a point to tune in until around the holiday, but I have always thought it sounds like they do a better job.

We interrupt this regular format song for the following...JING, JING, JING-A-LING,...JING, JING, JING-A-LING,...JING, JING, JING...
Well,...not that anyone was the least bit surprised,...once again, both stations have still...yet again...sacrificed any hopes of a Fall book to The Ghost of Andy Williams, and his closet of...formerly worn Red Sweaters. Gee,...who's your Consultant?
Johnny Mathis? Both stations claiming to be "The Offical Christmas Station". However, neither nor have any noterized letterhead perrrrrr-mission from Santa Claus. I made a call to the orniment office, Friday afternoon, and some reception Elf said that his Jolly-ness is outta the office, and won't be doing any press until the first. Bee-utiful weather today, irritating college football cloggin' up several stations, and the two AC's dumpin' a foot of snow on me, as I tooled around my property lines.
Now the dumb, but festive has got Fredev all rung-out, and Grinchy. It won't be too much longer before TheBigA decides to share his infinate wisdom, and corrective doodlege. However, neither of the two are more pissssstt than I am! In this market, we don't don't anything properly programmed anyway. When you have one big stick FM or close to it, park their regular format to hang a hard turn for nearly two months,...We all loose! When two, in the same market, pee in our Cheerio's then, as Bugs would say: "Of Coarse You Realize, This Means War!". If each station was properly programmed the other 10-months, and had a 10-share, you wouldn't see any Red Sweaters until about week away from the actual day. So, I keep my ipod charger plugged in, next to my toaster...English Muffin, anyone?

The Sun News said Star 92.1 did at Thanksgiving. Now Myrtle Beach is different in that it doesn't have an actual AC, so Star is the de facto AC.

Magic 98.9 Christmas Music

Magic's website now shows "the christmas station" on their logo. I'm thinking they will change pretty soon, probably next week?

It also looks like they've modified their logo.

I'm sure MY is going to go all-Christmas, too, which is a shame.

All-Christmas isn't even that popular anymore. It didn't do very well in Greenville last year, and a lot of stations like B-98.5 in Atlanta decided to pass on wall to wall Christmas.

I would have hoped that MY would know better after finally righting the ship as far as Hot AC. It will be really sad if they indeed go all Christmas again this year.

Depends on the market. Arbitron ratings for the Christmas season in some areas last year were spectacular.

That's exactly why I just came here. WBBQ went all-Christmas earlier this week.

I hope MY waits a while, but they were pretty early last year. Most markets don't have 2 stations playing all-Christmas anymore. More and more stations are getting away from it, 2 certainly aren't needed.

sales dollars aren't there anymore for radio and retailers specific to Christmas. I would be surprised if 102.5 went Christmas after their recent successes. 98.9 jocks will need therapy

Yeah, you're right. I can understand 102.5 doing all-Christmas a little more when they were not doing as well but I think it'd be a mistake for them to mess up what they have going right now. I don't think they have to worry about losing much Christmas audience to 98.9 anymore, going by their stabs on-air they seem more focused on B.

According to the MY Facebook page, they said they are going to be playing Christmas music later this month :( I could only hope they mean playing Christmas music occasionally, but I doubt it.

Such few markets have 2 all-Christmas stations, and it doesn't really do that well anymore. I just feel like it'd de-rail the progress they've been making. :( Hot AC stations normally don't go all-Christmas.

Considering they seem to compete more for adult listeners B attracts these days (they have on-air swipes at them frequently, and don't play much stuff that's older than 5 or so years now), I see no reason for them to be the second all-Christmas station in a market it doesn't seem to be that popular in these days to begin with.
