I would really like to hear a true Classic Rock format in this market. Right now, there simply isn't one.

The Arrow tries, but they fall way short.

There is no reason to keep a song rotation down to 400 or less, especially when you are playing Classic songs.

They could expand their song rotation to about 2,000 songs very easily, and still play only the cream.

Just a thought from an old radio guy.

oh yeah, those were the days. even Z107 did a better job than Arrow. ;D

when I listen to Deep Tracks on XM, I'm amazed at how deep they go. Canned Heat, Hot Tuna, Jefferson Airplane, deep album cuts from LedZep and even the new Mudcrutch.

However, the Classic Rock format on KRBE 1070 from 1984-87 was far superior to anything that has been done with that genre on FM here.

Yes it was very good. I still maintain that a larger playlist would help any classic rock station or just about any format for that matter. There are plenty of great songs which are not heard due to the tighter playlists. I understand that music research proves differently. However, we have followed that way of doing it for years. It's time to throw those musical shackles off and renew the sound which has become increasingly stale and boring.

Another thing that does not matter anymore, is the DJ who could mix the music and present it in his/her own unique way while staying consistent with the overall sound of the station. It is an art which has faded away. The listeners do care who is on the air or at least did care, until the bean counters downplayed their importance, ripping out the personality under the guise of saving money.

Return the music and return the personality. We can make radio exciting again. I hear the excitement in 1560 The Game, KSHN 99.9FM Liberty, and 1390 AM KULP El Campo.

Hey Chuck, when is your talk show starting with the host from channel 11?

If you are talking about Whitney Casey, she appears to have already come and gone from KNTH very quickly. I've heard she is headed back to NYC.

Whitney Casey's program "Relationships With Whit" was on for 3 weeks. I had a very limited time to work with her on her program. She is a very personable lady and the studio sessions were fun which made the sessions seem short. Whitney is also working on a new book and which was taking up a lot of time. I think it was difficult to juggle the two. The type of show that she was presenting needed a lot of time dedicated to it. Additionally, it would require time devoted to the production elements in the form of her own commercials as well as actualities needed for her show.

Another situation was KNTH contracual agreement with the Houston Aeros. Some of the Aeros game times were falling into the time that was agreed upon. The time was to 6PM-8AM Saturday and Sunday. This caused her program to be on different times. It wasn't a good way to start a new show.

I wish her the best in her endevours.

Another quality take CT! You have to wonder how many classic rock listeners, or younger music listeners to A/C stations have IPODS. Anyone with an IPOD has the ability to program anywhere from 500 to 50,000 songs depending on the gigs. At that point the only reason to listen to formated music stations IS for the personalities. As we are witnessing, the only way that will be happening again is for local ownership who know to program first, then let the $$$'s come in. I believe the horse is out of the barn for the future of personality driven FM radio. IPODS and Satellite radio are in the process of taking out FM IMO. The game may succeed on AM talk because there's no choice other than personalities on the virtue of the format itself, but they need something else like a tie-in to a major local sports franchise. If that doesn't happen over the next few years they may find it hard to survive on personality alone. No matter how you look at it you still need personality, laser precision programming and a little luck to survive and profit in today's radio business world.

Here's something I found interesting. I have over 40,000 songs on my Ipod... but in reality, I find myself listening to only a few hundred. I never even realized that, but when I thought about it, and actually went into itunes and checked it, it's true. Odd, but I found it amusing. I remember loading it up all excited... never really paid any attention to how much I was listening to anything until now. Doesn't really mean anything, but I find it interesting.

Spanish Sports Talk would kill and you know it. On FM of course!

Seriously, if I had a station that needed a format that would be nothing but MONEY, I'd program it Viet Namese. Music , News, Talk, sort of a full-service, but all in viet namese. A very poorly serviced, huge market, and yes I am aware of Radio Saigon out near Sharpstown. Why should they make all the dough? Besides aren't they AM? I could retire in a year!

Anything but the same old rotating corporate cookie cutter crap we have in every city in the country!
Dog Talk..a Pigmy Cooking format. I especially like the idea of a government denial format. or Just Do It radio?

Contestants carry out the ultimate radio stunts. This time it's those funny radio hosts who are the brunt of the joke. My first broadcast would be having a Rush Limbaugh roast. Literally.

How about Funny or die?

Guests get three chances to make our panel of three British twits laugh or they are donated to science.

Naked on the Radio is radio's answer to the net porn explosion. Radio Ventriloquists doing multiple voices and dialects was going to be my first choice but Phil Hendrie took care of that expertly. Seancing with the Stars would have people riveted to the radio. Celebrity nobodies talk to their dead parents, friends, and pets.

As for music, any format that doesn't repeat the same twenty songs every other hour and try to make that sound hip. In the case of Classic Rock or Classic Hits, a station that doesn't call 400 total songs selected by one corporate idiot, the representation of three decades of music. (K-HITS, can I hear Light My Fire just one more time? This time, maybe backwards or sped up?)

But serially folks...ethnic formats are only viable if there is a retail community to support them. I agree with Colonel Sanders that Hispanic Sports Talk in a hit but, as you well know, this will have to be ignored for as long as possible by the evil empires until it all of a sudden becomes a new brilliant idea from some consultant or corporate wiz (you know, the ones who have to have someone else sign their names to business letters.

They are the only people permitted to decide if there should be any new and exciting ideas and what the are.

Colonel, I've been telling folks this for years on this and other boards --- if you want it done and can prove that it can be done, then do it yourself. I have a grand concept for the net that TERRESTRIAL RADIO won't touch (UNTIL THEY HEAR IT ON THE NET AND TRY TO STEAL IT).

It is amazing that corporations declare and enforce intellectual property, yet believe that radio is a free range of ideas to take what you want.

Now, that we all have a great box of ideas, all we need is money.
