White House bars AP, Reuters and other media from covering Trump cabinet meeting

Or rather, they were told to vacate the space they had, so it could be given to someone else.
Or at least word in the Pentagon Courtyard over the brown bagged lunches is RT, Voice of Korea, China Radio International and Radio Sputnik have been politely signaling that they would please like bigger digs in a groveling letter simply addressed to O Mighty One c/o White House. Or something....

The Washington Post editorial board wrote this column about the new defense department media rules

They predict that none of the reporters will sign the pledge.

Most of the press corps will not sign the document in its current form, which means they could be barred from the Pentagon within the next few weeks. Reporters will keep pursuing scoops, but the public might end up less informed.

US News put together a summary of how major news organizations responded:

Here's a review from CNN

Update on new rules for media coverage at the pentagon:

I hope there is enough money and willingness available for the Pentagon press to file a lawsuit against both the institution and its current head. (I would also love to see a lawsuit filed against the currently sitting U.S. President over the same issue.)

Woah and even Newsmax and Fox News does not agree with the Pentagon press rules under Secretary Hegseth. Yes the usual would be AP, Reuters, NPR and PBS would not do that given their issues with the White House. But then again how this is implemented within the Pentagon and White House Press Pools has to be reconsidered here given where this is going.

The fact is, and the president recognizes it, that good reporters don't need press passes or press conferences to cover the news.

Reporters will report whatever they want. If it's not accurate, then it's up to the pentagon to prove it. That's why they hold press briefings.

I found it worth noting that Fox signed onto the letter--that particular network is usually very pro-Trump.

And while it is true that defense reporters could gather information some distance from the Pentagon, I fear that something terrible will happen that blindsided us because the Pentagon reporters didn't have the information in hand or couldn't get it to us in time to avoid disaster.

There appears to be an arrangement between the white house and One America. They're the company being used as the content source for the VOA. So it seems as though the administration wants to use them as the official state media service. Not Fox. The president is currently suing Rupert Murdoch.

True and also consider that Pete Hegseth was a pundit at Fox News at one point. But then again its the First Amendment thats a running issue in the Trump Administration.

Here’s more this time members of the Pentagon Press Pool turn in their passes and clear the Pentagon in response to new rules related to being in the Press pool.

Here we go again as usual with the White House and the Press pool.

Hopefully, everybody reading this, like yours truly, is dismayed but not surprised by this behavior.

Here is the current status of the Pentagon Press Pool. The ones included are OAN and The Epoch Times as the most famous examples of media outlets that did sign Pete Hegseth's Pentagon Press Pool policy. Yes its very White House friendly outlets that did sign the policy agreement.

Nevertheless, it is a telling statement that Fox News refused the new requirements for covering the Pentagon.
True and the other reason Fox didn’t sign the current Pentagon press pool policy is because there are other entities within Fox that also get identified to the public as Fox News such as Live Now on Fox and Local Fox O&O’s whose audiences are somewhat different from those that watch Fox News Channel and Fox Nation. The Local O&Os and headline service Live Now on Fox have reported on things that the White House does not want to hear and also in some of the articles they cite AP as the basis for some of the articles.

Here is more on who is joining the current Pentagon Press Pool with Secretary Pete Hegseths approval. Yes this includes Turning Point which the late Charlie Kirk was their leader prior to September 2025. Also it includes Mike Lindell’s team joining the Pentagon Press pool.

The Pentagon press corps has a new look.
Out are all the major networks, The Washington Post and The Associated Press.

In are TurningPoint USA, RedState and a streaming service run by MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.

More than 60 journalists “representing a broad spectrum of new media outlets and independent journalists” have received credentials to cover the headquarters of the U.S. military under new Trump administration restrictions, Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said Wednesday.

It would be a good poll question. Ask the public how they feel about receiving "approved" news. The problem is the public doesn't know. They don't care about the pentagon until we get attacked. Then it matters. But until then, the government can lie to them, and it's easier to lie when nobody's asking serious questions. It's all reality TV show stuff.

Hungary's Viktor Orban told CPAC in 2024 that the way to victory was to create and give access only to your own approved media. This is what has happened here. I can't think of the words to explain how vile all of this is, but I will say that if all U.S. citizens don't wake up and demand accountability for these actions, it may become too late when we find ourselves in a situation like Chile under Pinochet or Argentina under Perone. (Maybe it is too late but I'm sounding the alarm anyway.)
