Who makes you cringe?

Not cringeworthy, but just funny, watch for the Healthspring commercials, especially with the old codger named John F (they don't give his last name)! That guy is a hoot and a holler! Especially when he talks about the price of gas! How many of you wanna bet he doesn't even drive anymore?

When I first started noticing their commercials, they had Willie Mays saying quite a bit more on there than they do now. He went on and on, extolling the virtues of "hefspring" as he called it. ;D Now he just has the tag line, "remember now, tell 'em Willie sentcha!" ;D :D

Or the animated commercials for the old Willingham dealerships - Mazda of Hickory Hollow and Toyota of Gallatin. They were bland but so were the spots in which the Willinghams appeared. i worked for gary willingham back then as his office courier..pretty neat job..got a company car, gas, and all i had to do was run paperwork from gallatin to nashville dropping off as i went..get to hickory hollow, grab more papers, drop them off on the way back to gallatin..he was shall we say.."less than honorable" as a car dealer..and got his tennesse license pulled..and went back to texas..they would have an all day shoot when they did those spots..complete with a caterer..compared to willingham..bill heard was the pope.......

The Willingham son was probably a nice guy but he had less personality than the cartoon people did.

from the day i started to the day i left..none of the willinghams knew who i was..or what i did..gary would come in the toyota dealership and sit down and sign payroll checks..several times i would be there in the office and he'd get to my name and ask.."now who is this..and what does he do " i'd answer and tell him i was the guy hauling around all his money..and he'd say..o yea..yea.. and keep signing checks..asked that just about every time he came in. he'd stop and ask the office people at mazda the same thing.."who is that..does he work here"? you would think if someone was carrying around anywhere from 50K to 100K of his money on a daily basis..he'd be a little more up to speed. i was the only guy in an office full of women age 25 to 50...bitchin' job.. ;)

You can bet if you ever lost any of that money he would have know who you were.

T 'deltas69' and anyone else who is interested...

Julian's occupied the space where Emma's is now, but the original Emma's was just a few doors down West End.

Julian's was owned and operated by John Haggard. His son, John, Jr., was in radio in Nashville and elsewhere for many years.

John Jr is still in town in advertising and handles the advertising for a piano company (claude p street I think). we had lunch last year over on the circle. He's an old KDF alumni.

I'm cringing at Jack FM right now. Getting really tired of those stupid prerecorded comments from
listeners between songs. If I hear that word that starts with an s and rhymes with "luck" one more
time, I'm going to quit listening. I've already deleted the preset for the station and changed
it back to Mix 92-9. Their music is getting stale, boring, and predictable..their ratings are
dropping like a hot potato (and deserve to). Whoever programs that station needs a swift
kick in the place.

Nashville needs a GOOD oldies station.....one that plays ALL oldies that were hits, not the same 400 over and over and over.

I think the whole story of Savemor Bucks and Lois Payments needs to be told. They lived in my Amiga computer and we made them up as a joke. Tim Bowles, Craig Culver and I were having some beers at the Outback, and we were talking about how Dan Walters of Rivergate Toyota reminded us of a cartoon. I said we could make a cartoon and super it over a dealer shot to make a cheap commercial, and we all laughed and had another beer. The next morning Tim called up and said that he had sold it. Travis Hardison was the voice of Savemor and Ethel Gilkey did Lois. We also had another couple, Les Payments and Leesa Bargain.

Saw a knock-off of that concept in a market 225 miles SW of here several years back. See-more trucks (Jack Voorhees) Delowest Price, Peso Little. Make you want to stick an ice pick in your eye, over and over again. Just can't seem to blot it out of my mind.

I find WSMV weatherperson Tim Ross absolutely cringe-worthy. Too much goofy and not enough credibility. When Tim comes on, I go look to see what Brother Statom is doing.

Oh man Scott..you nailed this one. I can't stand it when he refers to himself as "Mr. Tim." Grow up pal. Now Hollie, she's a different story altogether. She makes my heart go pitter pat!

How about that Carnival Kia commercial with the two kids saying, "Don't do anything. . until you see me" and the father (the owner, I guess), says quietly afterwards, "Until you see *me*".

Or the DT McCall and Sons. . . HEYYYYYYY. . . .

My favorite is that Hester Battery live spot on the Carl Tipton Show from the 70's, where the client has a rough time reading from the script and the announcer is having a rough time to keep from busting out laughing:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JTCYBCQ0XI

(starts about :45 into the clip, although the entire clip is rather funny).

LOL...the DT McCall idiots need to say HEYYYYYY...WE'RE HICKS!!!
