Who will do X-mas this year?

So if MIX plays Christmas Music, there will be...

3 Sports Stations...
2 Christmas Stations...
and an RDU market UP a tree! ???

Mix 101.5 may just as well jump on the all-Christmas format, they are really the only station left in the triangle that caters to the suburbanite soccer moms. In just scanning the dial, you can hear the James Taylor-Rod Stewart-Celine Dion-Air Supply ??? mix at any certain time.

And, if a choice between Air Supply and the Chipmunks Christmas song, I say, "GO ALVIN". ;D
I'm just hoping that a station that streams online picks it up--- and this is where the Curtis stations fall WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY behind (none of them stream). Both Capitol stations stream, not to mention the vast majority of CC stations--- including all the local (Raleigh and Greensboro) ones.

The Curtis Group concentrates on traditional radio broadcasting and making money. Both of which they do very well.
With the restrictions on what ads can air (union issue), and no benefit from Arbitron, there's no real payoff to streaming, other than a providing a service to out of town or out of reach listeners.
When there's money to be made from streaming, Curtis will be all over it.

So why does he stream the State Government Radio product? There must be some advantage.

Frankly, I think it would really benefit the AM stations in the Curtis group. They can pick up listeners in buildings they don't have a shot at today.

While it may not help with Arbitron, it will make the local commercials more effective. They have the software to replace national spots with promos, or more local commercials. Would require very little effort.

The would have to cover some of the syndicated programs, but they could re-air the morning news and local shows in those dead periods.

If an internet listener just writes down the calls in a diary, what happens? I know Arbitron asks if it is Internet listening, but my guess is the diary keeper is not that accurate about it. And how will they remember if they were listening on the Internet or on the radio! Believe me, I have looked at enough diaries to know most of them are truly clueless about it.

Not meaning to demean the listener - just a fact of life that the radio ain't the most important thing in their lives! (with the except of a few who lurk here! :~)

Alright, this post is going way to far...Look for the X-mas music to hit the triad aiwaves on November 16th @ 5pm.
What about here (whichever station picks it up)? Sunny 93.9 used to start cranking out the Christmas tunes the day after Halloween, for the most part, although one year it sounded like Sunny and WMAG were simulcasting each other playing the same song at the same time. ???

Clear Channel would NEVER do such a thing ;D

Not simulcast, but use the same library and the same daily play list! Happens all the time on CC stations. You will hear the same songs in the same order - but often some time shift because of commercial loads.

Who will do X-mas this year? Mix, Y, or both?

Has anyone heard what the verdict is yet? Will the new Christmas station be Mix 101.5, Y102.9, or both? I am hoping that Mix gets at least some share of it since Y102.9 doesn't stream online.

After looking at today's ratings, I bet WMAG can't wait to put that Christmas music on! ;D
