As a lay-person I would assume that was how time on the radio was determined.

Nah, I should've said: the both have great voices and both happen to deserve more airtime. On the other hand, Steve Barnes has a great voice, but he deserves the amount of mic time he's currently getting.

In my opinion, Randy Reeves in the laid back mid-day role on Z93 was one of the most listenable CHR guys of the era, period.

I hear his produced work still, of course, but it would be nice to hear what he'd sound like today as an on-air host.

I remember back in the late 1970's listening to Randy Reeves mid-mornings after the "Nearly Famous" (as they called it) Ross and Wilson show. Yes, he was very laid-back but great to listen to. If I remember correctly, Dale O'Brien did afternoon drive-time and he was followed by Steve Maples doing evenings.

Z93 back then was at the top of their game and always great to listen to.

I agree on Randy Reeves and R&W. Z-93, jumped the shark after they left.

You are also correct about Dale O'Brien--although IMO Dale O'Brien was too AC for Z-93, and was a better fit once he moved on to (IIRC) B98.5 and later Peach.

So where is Dale O'Brien? (these days)

I had the pleasure of getting to know Randy Reeves a little bit when he was the imaging voice at a station where I worked. We became friends and had lunch together and you won't meet much more of a nicer or more genuine person. We need more like him in the industry.
