Those who consistently put out a product consumers enjoy will thrive and attract new patrons who have discriminating taste who can distinguish the good from the bad. We all know what a syndicated Smooth Jazz product controlling the airwaves playing the same garbage in cities throughout the nation has done to the genre. It has burried two of its flagship carriers, and more will fall, you can take that one to the bank.

Chris,
Once again, you nailed it. CONSISTENCY is the key. BA....consistently BAD, and killing the format on radio. Consistent and cookie cutter are two different things. The BS on the net is a result of (as Questor said) is the result of monkeys who have the money, time, and enough internet savy to throw up their own toy. This is not to say they do not have any value....just not enough to carry the water of the cause. BA is silly enough to think that drawing in a P2 or a P3 for cume sake (at the expense of the P1) is worth it. Guess what? Smooth Jazz will NEVER consistently hold a top 3 cume spot in most markets 12+. The kids like LIL WAYNE etc., and they want to hear it ad infinitum until they burn out in 3-5 weeks. In the desired SJ demos, people are more discerning. A fiercely loyal 3-4 share is what you get with the SJ genre in general when you do it right, and you hang around in the top 10-15, but that doesn't cut it when you paid 12 time multiple for the stick. Fortunately, the big boys are in trouble, and they are taking baths on these stations as they sell them. I was told by a good friend with solid business acumen, that a recession is a good thing, because it kills the garbage, trims the fat, and allows the innovative, hard working, and sensible folk to rise to the top. How true!
