WIBC HD2 Translator

Quite good on my outside FM yagi near Edinburgh.

John--this one rocks. I was at the Daleville exit on I-69 this morning and it was listenable in general and crystal clear on overpasses. The big news is that Andy Bolin heard it in Charleston, Illinois this morning and it was strong enough to light the stereo light. Like myself, he has an outdoor yagi and a great quality tuner. That will all change when the 50KW Terre Haute signal returns to 107.5 . But for now, it's the "little engine that could" to the west.

IF 107.5 returns to Terre Haute. Doesn't seem certain that it ever will.

640 is being hijacked to Peotone Il. 107.5 is being split 3 ways as a non-com.

The FCC told the three churches envolved in 107.5 Mhz to come to an agreement and stop fighting. The 107.5 Mhz. tower has been up for years but whether a transmitter is at the original WBOQ site is unknown. I look for the FCC to step in and perhaps even re-award the CP. Terre Haute has four colleges and for public radio we have to listen to a translator of WFIU from Bloomington, Indiana. Paul Ford does a nice job with protestant religious radio with three stations in Terre Haute and Covenant Ministries also does well with Catholic programming with WHOJ. What I am saying is the three churches that cannot agree, are going to have a tough time getting listeners

By the way, the 640 Khz. move to a suburb of Chicago decision has been postponed for six months at the request of Birach Broadcasting. In the letter that I received from Birach Broadcasting's attorney, an environmental study is to be made. My thoughts and this is only my opinion is that Birach may be trying to sell the CP because of recent changes in the Terre Haute radio market which is now a duopoly. Also, there was a FCC clarification letter about moving frequencies from one city to another that did not look favorable to Birach.

Thanks for staying on topic everyone:)

I don't doubt that I will eventually log 107.5 here in Coldwater, MI. Other than 107.7 WRKR splatter, 107.5 is a very open frequency. Only WHTD/WGCI/WZRX to contend with. Bring on some Indianapolis enhancement and I'll get this.

As a DX'er, it is sad to see 107.5 filling up. I understand that W298BB will serve Indianapolis better than a distant station on 107.5 will, and $$$ is the name of the game. But 107.5 was the BEST DX frequency I found down there. I heard Nashville's WRVW (The River) all the way up to the Seymour exit on I-65. Doubt that will happen now.

Ralph Stroebel in Muncie tells me it comes in on his car radio inside the garage. This one was built right.

I tried for W298BB last night to no avail. I didn't even have WIBC or WZPL coming in. I think those stations would have to be at least elevated for me to even have a chance.

I found a website that projects station coverage (factors terrain, antenna height and everything). It appears as if Ralph's location of Muncie may be on the very edge of their listenable signal ring. But areas within 40-50 miles shouldn't have a problem with them, either. I actually found pockets 80 miles out easily that may be able to sniff out this signal, even on car stereo, any given day.

I wonder how the folks at WHHC-LP in New Castle feel about this. :)

Is that one even on the air? Isn't that the one that ran a dead carrier for a year or two & then shut it off?

got W298BB here in the meadowbrook area of Anderson Indiana (38th Street between Madiosn Avenue & Main Street) pretty well with an old half trashed radio that has no antenna on it. got a bit of splatter from WNTR. but its a very tight spaced radio dial so its a bit hard to get enough spin of the dial to get between 107.9/107.7/107.5

getting W298BB on that radio but i cant get WEDJ out of danville IN (Radio Latina) at all is an amasement

I can think of a few places that should try that instead of what they're doing now.

I hear WFNI's plan is to not simulcast on the translator all of the time. 10AM-3PM the AM would be local while 107.5 would have ESPN national hosts. Play by play conflicts would be settled by splitting up the simulcast also. Wouldn't this approach be considered originating programming on a translator and not within translator rules?

WFNI and WIBC HD2 are two different entities. All they need to do is make sure that whatever is on WIBC HD2 is also on the translator.
