Will Tejano ever make it back to the FM dial ?????

Not many. Still not enough to make it economically successful. An old audience that keeps decreasing makes it unnattractive.

The ones that are sticking to the format are leaning Classic Tejano these days.

This whole sentence is completely wrong. KKPS in the Valley just went Regional Mexican last year. KSAB and KLHB in Corpus Christi have plentyful Regional Mexican music (almost half) in their playlist. Other stations (like in Laredo) have even thrown Spanish AC into their mix just to make it. The only station that sticks with Tejano (Little Joe, Ruben Ramos, Roberto Pulido, Gary Hobbs) are both Univision's Tejano and a couple in West Texas.

Even the once mighty KXTN in San Antonio plays its share of Little Joe and Mazz.
I'm sure if there was some exciting new Tejano product out there, they'd jump on it.

That is what both Univision Tejano stations are doing since there is little to no new artists to expand on. KRTX is an exact replica of KXTN. Put KXTN in Houston and it will fail. put KRTX in San Antonio and it will be a success. The Demographics of San ANtonio are different from Houston. I'm pretty positive that if Estereo Latino did not excist in either San Antonio or Houston, Univision would add Norteno to both KXTN and KRXT playlists. But in order to protect both stations from taking from each others' ratings, they stick with their intended format. Thus we see no new artist added.

One great example was when Univision (HBC back in the day) had a Tejano station and a Regional Mexican music station in the Valley. The Tejano station started to pull norteno into their playlist, but this started to hurt both station since KGBT already covered Norteno. So in the end, guess which station was left standing?

Well Univision can do a better job of updating their playlist with new music from current artists. For example a new song that airplays in South Texas by Jimmy Gonzales Y Grupo Mazz sometimes does not get airplay in Houston. Lately Eric O at KRTX has been doing a great job adding some new requests. Thanks Eric keep up the good job in Keeping Tejano ALIVE!!!

I totally agree, I hear new stuff from Joe Posada to Avizo, Jonny Cruz, Jay, David Lee, shit even the new emilio.... I love the station,,,,, To bad its not on FM... ONe thing about this station its unique. My opinion.

Yeah, and stations in South Texas are playing artist like Los Huracanes del Norte, Duelo, Pesado, Tigrillos (which are not Tejano). You do realize that those stations are slowly (or maybe I should be saying rapidly) moving out of Tejano. KKPS in the valley is now 100% Regional Mexican. All of Corpus Christi (Except one) are starting to lean into a Regional Mexican sound and leaving Tejano behind. Every Tejano station is going Regional Mexican (With the exception of Univision stations, which will never go that route).

I should be safe to say withing the next 10 years, we can finally see the last of Tejano stations fade away.

According to the latest ratings, KXTN has been on a downward slide since Summer 2007. Still the station is in the Top 10 in 12+.

I dunno. Sounds pretty Tejano to me. DJs in English.
They still stream. Listen for yourself.

I don't need to listen. I have listened for a long time now in the past. Bilingual DJ's does not mean they are Tejano (it's more about the culture in South Texas). Reggeaton stations had Bilingual DJ's and that doesn't make them Tejano. They dropped the "Your Numero Uno for Tejano" slogan last year.

Los Angeles de Charly, Los Huracanes del Norte, Cardenales de Nuevo Leon, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Vicente Fernandez, El Chapo de Sinaloa, Duelo, Diana Reyes, Banda Limon, and many more DO NOT SOUND TEJANO TO ME.

Except for a horrible December, KXTN in 25-54 is very consistent in the same range over the last 18 months.

i hate all the stations in the valley, there is no competion, the top stations are all different formats. music down here is old and annoying. (wild 104 does a good job to overdue it) there isnt any tejano stations in the valley on fm they are all in Corpus.

Looks like we're well on our way to getting tejano back on the FM dial. Its been since 2001,Houston has been without tejano music on the FM airwaves. Tejano just got moved to a stronger HD signal at 102.9 FM HD2. Way to Go PURO TEJANO 980 AM and UNIVISION.
