Rumor has it Spanish for 98.3

Where do these rumors come from???? Spanish has been tried and dumped once in the Triad! I vote for Lawerence Welk Music

"....somewhere... roaming around the triad... is a greased pig with a $100 dollar bill taped to his belly..."

It is true... La Raza 98.3 is comming to your receiver

Will it be sixties music in Spanish? I do hope so! I don't want to see goodtimeandgreatoldies disappointed again. He/she gets very upset without oldies being on the air. If this news is true, what's the status of 790 AM the ball? And how about the employees? Is GHB management offering Spanish classes to employees, or is it hello NC Employment Security Commission? Goodby Country Legends 98.3

Talked to a friend there yesterday and it's confirmed, 98.3 goes Hispanic on July 1. 790 The Ball will follow later in the year (possibly as late as 12/31/10) The company is being very good to the WIST employees paying and extending benefits through the end of August. Wes is on part-time disability but may be able to expand that to full time. Wonder how long this Spanish station will last? Any bets? I say they'll switch to something else on 12/21/12... All Aztec all the time! :D

That sucks about 790 The Ball. That's one of the few stations here that I can listen to for more than 5 minutes without wretching (except when Petros Papadakis is on at 7pm. I can't take him for more than 5 seconds!).

Its really interesting how fast word got out about this format change. The sales department was calling clients on Tuesday. Everything was supposed to be hush hush. As to how long the Spanish will last, I would say it will be for a long, long time. There is clearly money to be made with this demographic and if the audience is well served, they should do quite well, and it doesn't matter if we who speak English like it or not. Also I hope goodtimesandgreatoldies isn't too disappointed and survives this format switch.

Any idea who is doing the LMA on WIST? Norbert Sanchez is doing it with GHB's FM station in Charlotte, and is getting some good numbers.

Later . . . .

Interesting... "La Raza 98.3" picking up the mantle dropped by CC after "La Preciosa 94.5" went "Yuck Radio"... When CC flipped "94.5 The Beat" to Spanish in 2006, the station translated to "94.5 El Beato." How do you say the current (country legends) station's name in Spanish?

The tread has mentioned a number of times that 98.3 had only two opportunities for growth in the market and that was either Hispanic of Classic Hits (oldies). Norberto Sanchez is a pretty good operator and feel he and his team will do well in the GSO market. The real need here is for a street wise leader to build a sales team and pick up the slack that WGBT left in the market when CC made the decision to change formats to Rush all the time. If you noticed in the last ARB WNOW out of Gaffney, SC scored a 1.4 in the 12+ ratings. WGBT was constantly doing well in the ratings. Congrats to Norberto!

Burrito Legends? ;D

Now it's up to Curtis to do what they did with WKIX-AM and WQDR-AM. I always figured WMFR would go sports, so I guess that's a possibility too.

WCOG = COuntry Gold. Not likely given its heritage, but I'm hoping.

This may be a topic for another thread, but how is WMFR doing as a community station since Max Meeks left? WIST was doing a lot of community announcements and commercials about events. They should put Wes Jones on WMFR. And they have to do something with the record collection. I had hoped The Ball would take it.

They already hired three of the top Hispanic media sellers in the area. Even with the limitations that 98.3 signal has, I'm sure they will hit the ball out of the park. Hispanics in the Triad got used to an FM signal. I just hope that they will be smart enough and try to localize the station same as La Preciosa did, and not only send everything from Charlotte. I agree Norsan is a good Hispanic Company.

;)

Well, we know they'll hit The Ball out of the park.

Two songs they absolutely must play: hits "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" and "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights".
