Really amazes me that so many people know so much about what is going on at WIST. It is my understanding that Jake Bogan flew into town and made the announcement and there has been no one from the Norsan group in to talk to staff and the LMA does not start until like July 1. Think we have some speculation here. I do agree this was suposed to be a hush hust kind of deal but we all know how radio folks like to talk.

Kind of hard for things to be "hush hush" when it's already been printed in the Charlotte Observer. Don't you think? ;) And, besides, there has been speculation about a change for several weeks. There's also been talk on the Hispanic boards, according to Tropicanna Media. I would also imagine that Norberto and/or his team might have told a few people, since they've already hired the top 3 Hispanic sellers in the market.

Following the flip of “94.5 La Preciosa” to News/Talk “Rush Radio 94.5” in January, the Greensboro/Winston-Salem Triad Spanish language audience has been once again relegated to a number of low powered AM’s. That will soon change as Norsan Multimedia has reached an LMA with an option to buy with GHB Broadcasting for “Country Legends 98.3” WIST-FM and Sports “790 The Ball” WBLO.

The Charlotte Observer reports that WIST-FM will flip to Regional Mexican “La Raza”, while WBLO will remain Sports “for now”.

I'm just wondering how long "the ball" will be in English. Maybe a different Spanish format? Same as in Charlotte area with "Latina"? My understanding is that both of the Norsan stations are selling well.

Why should anyone from Norsan talk with the staff? They (the current staff) don't and won't work for Norsan and the new people. It was the responsibility of Jake Bogan and the management of GHB to inform their employees, and from what I've heard from unnamed sources, GHB has been more than fair to their employees. Audios Country Legends 98.3

Seems like to me if you are a truly Triad Newsman, you would know how to spell this Spanish word!

Audios hahahahahahahahahahah

Me either, these girls down here in Walker's Cay only use sign language.. but I understand what they want! ;D

Hey Big Ape and Triadradionewsman,
Regards....Audios Country Legends 98.3

It's an accidental pun. We're dealing in audio and latino!

I wondered when you would eventally show up on the board about these comments!  When you get through screwing around up there come on down and I'll show you where all the Spanish Mac and Trout are!  Bring the Bongos with ya!

The sad fact is, neither 790 nor 98.3 produced enough cash flow to stick.

I for one am REAL surprised 790 held on for the length of time it has, they never have produced jack squat income-wise. And piped in classic country really is nothing more than cheap filler, which also I am sure has trouble being something business owners are truly enticed to use their ad spend upon. So in the end this is not a surprise. But it cannot be said that GHB didn't give both stations all the opportunities in the world. most companies would have spun the wheel a long time ago.

But I have yet to see proof that the Hispanic dollar is really worth chasing in this market for those businesses who do not cater specifically to the Hispanic market. I work next to a Mexican grocery and their business is way off compared to a couple of years ago. According to the guy who owns the store the reason why is because many of the Mexicans/Hispanics who come into the Triad are seasonal and over the past couple of years there just has not been as much demand for their labor because of the economy.

Plus I have noticed that from personal experience in retail that differences in culture and language make closing them a serious pain in the keister. And on big ticket retail I have a feeling that the Hispanics are harder to get approved for financing. A lot of places had 'yo habla espanol' in their print ad's a few years ago, not as many do today.
