WISX to Flip Again?

Barring any lies, that is an interesting statement. Could mean that they seriously don't know of what's happening; or more-likely that they know their fate, but can't say much else.

BTW, it makes sense that they did not flip today. The 'mood' in the air is very busy with Election Day tomorrow. Friday would make much more sense as the political fuel should subside.

Did The Point debut on “election Monday,” or am I imagining that?

Replying to a couple of things in this thread:

WWDB flipped from talk to 80s the day before the 2000 election... so you never know what could happen when!

Plus, remember when Max 95.7 faded out mid-song and flipped to Jammin' Gold to beat a competitor to the format. Although, I don't see any competitors scrambling here.

Great points, Abraham and atthestars! But, this election seems to be different than every other election by media portrayal and partisanship. So I doubt a move would be done this time around.

On another note, I tried to go onto the registered sites, thebreezephilly.com and 1061thebreeze.com. Yesterday and earlier, the website began loading but never finished loading, not noting that the browser can't connect to the server. Today, both sites had a couple of quick refreshes before showing the 'can't connect to server' screen. Could there be things under-the-hood, in progress?

If I were launching an AC in Philly, I'd do it the second More FM flipped to Christmas. Assuming a change is in the works, that could also be what iHeart is waiting for.

That timing would be all well and good. But playing it out...if you do nothing to let people know you're there, during More FM's biggest month (ok, six weeks or whatever) of the year, are you going to get much of an advantage over that time? You can do a little cross-station promotion, where More crosses with one of your sisters, but how truly impactful (not to mention contextually comical) will it be to plug, let's say, "If you love Chicago and Gloria Estefan, check out The Breeze" on Q, Radio 104.5 et al.?

I'm not saying you do or don't do it. But rather pondering if there's all that much to be gained. Are there some folks who don't want the non-stop Christmas stuff? Sure. But a sizable enough group of them who will also find you? That's an interesting question.

Here is the logic in going Christmas:

AC is a female focused format, with female adult buys being the objective.

At Christmas, an all-Christmas station may lose a fair percentage of males. But that is not what they sell. They may at least double the female audience, sometimes triple it. That is the core.

The Christmas programming builds goodwill. It builds some loyalty, as long as the station does what it should the rest of the year, and WDVR/WBEB has proven for about 5 decades to be capable of doing that.

The station that swims upstream at Christmas time and tries to make it seem like they are better 'cause they don't do the Santa stuff is likely to be perceived as cold and uncaring. The core is overwhelmingly not looking for straight AC during the season. Not worth trying to sell ice at the South Pole. No need, no buyers.

Agree 100%. If The Breeze is actually happening, they should definitely start with a Christmas stunt. And in subsequent years, it wouldn't make sense to let 101.1 have the holiday spike all to themselves. I understand the thinking behind keeping the AC format on 106.1 while More-FM does Christmas (I used to think that might be a good idea too), but it really wouldn't make as much $en$e and we might think.

Nothing much happening today...airstaff, music, etc. On the website front, however, many more sites internationally have 1061thebreeze.com and thebreezephilly.com on name servers. One step closer to going live online. Could Friday be the day?

This is embarrassing considering I was in IT for many years and several of those were spent in web/network security but here goes: What does it mean that "more sites internationally have 1061thebreeze.com and thebreezephilly.com on name servers"?

BTW: I do feel strongly that Friday (my birthday, BTW) is the day. Otherwise, they're missing an opportunity. They could wait until Friday the 16th but that may be the day WBEB was going to flip anyway. (Although, with Thanksgiving being so early this year, it wouldn't surprise me if WBEB is hoping to hold off until the 21st.)

I'm not good with internet lingo...apologies there. I made a DNS check for name servers, and more locations around the world had a checkmark than before.

Happy early birthday...but Friday's usually seem to be a popular day, especially on the Christmas music front.

It would make sense to bring out the Sunny 104.5 Christmas library that's been collecting dust for 13 years and stunt with a deep variety of Christmas music till 12/26 or even till 1/1.
Some of the Real 106.1 audience likes Christmas music and will keep listening

This board's archives go surprisingly deep and I've found that Sunny actually used to kick off with a really tight Christmas library and expand it as the season went on. I understand the point of it but I love Christmas music and I want to leave it on right from jump, which is hard to do when the same Carpenters song is playing every 75 minutes. (Though I have to hand it to Sunny: I hated "Merry Christmas Darling" but they made me love it against my will.)

For 106.1's Christmas stunt to make any sense (as an introduction to an AC format), they can't stay in it after B101 has resumed the regular format. If anything, 106.1 should kick off AC at midnight on the dot Dec 26 regardless of what WBEB does.

I find it somewhat amusing to read all this anticipation of soft AC coming to a top ten market based solely on the registration of a URL. Has something fundamentally changed about the audience that prefers this kind of music or the format's appeal to agency-based advertisers? Would a flip, if one truly comes, be the start of a logic-defying "soft wave" at major-market radio? Just curious.

There are a couple reasons that people are anticipating Soft AC. Firstly, iHeart launched another station called The Breeze in San Fran a while back and it is Soft AC (and doing well). Also, Hot AC is traditionally a disaster here and going at B101 head-on has never worked for anyone. With 101.1 and 98.1 doing as well as they are, Soft AC is a logical way to wedge a station in between.

And remember, when they yanked Soft AC so many years ago, it wasn't really because the station was losing money. They ran it for about a dime a day, after all. They had a burning (and woefully misguided) need to get Spanish on FM and to give us a very, very, VERY poor version of Rhythmic AC.

I'm still not completely on-board with killing off Real 106.1 so soon (Maybe they'll move it to 104.5? Lord knows they've done stranger things with those frequencies!) but I have often wondered whether Sunny 104.5, had they continued evolving it, would make their current cluster more or less profitable. If the thinking is "more" (pun intended), then it makes sense to give Soft AC another shot.

Well, the breeze is OFFICIALLY COMING...

to Sacramento.

iHeart is launching a Breeze there ***once the market's current AC shifts to Christmas*** with no yuletide stunting. Could that be the case here? Could 101.1's return to heritage branding be an attempt to cement their heritage status and scare people off from sampling a new Breeze? Could I be looking too hard into all of this?

So many possibilities!

The other site alluded to registrations for 92.5 the Breeze, but not where it may be landing. (Safe to say XTU was never worried about it being them. lol)

We'll see if the Breeze template will continue to expand

If they do that here, it would really solidify in my mind that the folks running the Philly cluster aren't the shiniest ornaments on the tree. 95% of their intended audience would be listening to B101 for the first 6 weeks of The Breeze's existence. During that time, they they could instead be grabbing some of that listening and having the opportunity to tell folks what to expect from The Breeze when Christmas is over.

And in an amusing bit of inside baseball symmetry for this discussion, that Breeze will replace ‘BEB. KBEB, but still amusing.

This blows. I actually liked Real 106.1, especially when Boom started to suck. And Im not a fan of iHeartMedia f.k.a. ClearChannel

DJ Johnny V said he's getting ready for the Mix at 5, and there was a promo earlier for Chio and the Morning Show tomorrow...so likely no change today. Although right now (4:30), they're playing End of The Road from Boyz II Men. I thought they'd save this song before the format change...or maybe this is foreshadowing 106.1's fate...
