Hi Everyone,
Great to see the many posts on WIZR. My name is Joe Altieri and I am the morning host at WIZR. This is a new forum to me but regardless of me being new, I have a great deal of respect for all of you that follow radio so closely.
My decision (well I guess our decision) to have a Variety morning show was based on my time spent at WCSS. It worked well for us there being a small community and targeting a 22-55 age group. After three years of variety in the morning at WCSS and landing in Arbitron (not that means a heck of alot in Montgomery County), it made sense to continue with the same style show. So far the feedback from listeners has been positive. As one jock from a competing station put it, there is no mold on the show. I do my best to keep it fresh.
I have partnered with three Mayors, two Chamber Presidents, our local Community College, the Fulton County YMCA and many other local organizations keeping our content valuable to the listener.
I am a huge Pink Floyd fan but in 4 years of morning radio, have never once played a Pink Floyd song on the air. Nor do I recall playing any Alan Jackson. I do my very best to keep things current when it comes to Country and when crossing the lines in variety, I try to stay close to cross over music but have been known to step out of the box a few times throughout my show. So far from what I have experienced, this is what separates us from other local stations. A different kind of morning show in an area that has standard competition.
We are in tough times as we all know but I do believe from past experience and ratings from my previous position at WCSS, time will tell the story as to whether or not a Variety Morning show will be accepted at WIZR. Regardless, we are doing our best and having fun doing it. I especially enjoy promoting local artists and musicians on Friday mornings. I LOVE AM Radio and find it to be a tool to serve our community. With that said.. we will do our best and thank you all for your comments. This is a great forum for radio lovers to gather and share opinions and ideas. Keep up the good work.
Regards,
Joe Altieri
