WJBR sold to VCY???

Throw WJBR on WBEN-HD2 , run it jockless (much like WYSP on WIP-HD2), than forget it ever existed.
Having said that, I liked Club Ben.
Does anyone even listen to the HD2s?
My guess is not really.
Which begs the question, why have it to begin with?

That really is a good question. Why keep WJBR online when there are many other stations that play adult contemporary music?

Streaming ads are often sold separately from OTA.

My guess is they're trying to cling to that revenue stream for a while longer.
Getting the last revenue before the end is one thing; I never worked with a single client who would be fooled by nonsense like that.

If they just want to keep hold of the IP for whatever reason, this is the ultra meaningless way to do it.

The revenue will still be there on 99.5 FM til the final day.

This could be as simple as "direct your listeners to what's still your station, commercial free, to try and skim even a few people away from listening to B101 instead"

Plus the goodwill of "continuing the WJBR brand/station" after the sale

I get that the online station will preserve the WJBR brand; however, what has made WJBR-FM special is that it is a Delaware radio station with content, including advertising, that is relevant to the state. The WJBR.com station will likely not have any of the Delawarean characterists of the soon-to-be-gone FM station.

The idea of goodwill isn't realistic. For effectively the entire audience, the brand isn't being preserved. It's going away. Some may, for a while, stream it when that's an option, but we're talking a meaningless number. There are a plethora of other streaming options, and that little thing tucked away somewhere isn't going to be a drop in the ocean. From a business standpoint, it is efficient to stash the brand in case there's some value to it down the road. Cool, good for them. It's not like it replaced anything of value, so it's a wash for them.

Even if they somehow braught it back later on some other frequency, wouldn't that be an uphill battle, especially after listeners started listening to B101?

Beasley already knows how many listeners stream the station on the website and through their app. Those numbers might be sufficient to continue the station in some way online (which will be seemless, the station will never stop broadcasting via an app) and it could prevent listeners from moving to a competitor

Of course it would. And the odds of reviving a relationship are next to nil. But if you’re going to bother running something on the HD2 wasteland, next to nil is probably better than the odds club Ben will ever be useful.

Club Ben hasn’t been touched since the summer of 2007. I’m actually gonna miss it. I liked hearing the hits of 2007 all these years.

I liked it too, but did wonder how Club Ben woulda sounded different if they updated the playlist for music thru 2023 in keeping with its Rhythmic AC format.
