WJERFM Gone.....December 10th.....

From the news reports/blogs it might be too late, although no one is confirming/denying anything (of course).
I'll be surprised if Ed Schumaker/WTUZ didn't make an offer to get the AM....

Sounds like the current operator's response is an attempt to keep advertisers from jumping ship before December 10th. With such a small universe on a low-powered AM, he'll be hard pressed to keep any business outside of the Dover-New Philadelphia area. Should make WTUZ-FM even more attractive to businesses who like radio ads.

Agreed; Schumaker's gotta be smiling all the way to the bank ;D
Don't know how WJERAM will make a profit after FM is gone; You can't even pick up the signal when the sun goes down-how do you sell that? ???

As the originator of this item, unwittingly made the entire focus of a newspaper article (!!!)...

Our sources say "take it to the bank" re: the December 10th/11th time frame reported in the first entry here. Of course, give or take a few days/whatever depending on the weather in the next three weeks or so...which we also noted in the original item.

If Mr. Petricola is saying he "hasn't heard that date", his ears are plugged up with wax. He did NOT say, at least in the quote in the T-R, that the date was wrong.

I don't blame the guy for not confirming the date or our item. He could have just not commented at all. I mean, I know we're accurate and all at the Mighty Blog, but we're just an Internet blog. He could have just said we weren't worth responding to.

:D

Again, the info is accurate, and the only thing that would throw it off is weather delaying the construction of the tower about to go up at 22nd and Whipple in Canton. We're about due for a drive down there, anyway...

OA-WHEN YOU GET DOWN TO 22ND AND WHIPPLE SAY HI TO JOHN AMRHEIN AND JACK AMBROZIC AT WCER900

A large portion of profit comes from Holiday spots this time of year; I bet the former owner is due for a "freak-out" since he'll be losing a large sum of money from the move.. No way the AM will be able to sustain the amount of $$$$ that used to go through that place....

Could we see an all Christmas format for a few weeks to get the station noticed and off the ground prior to doing whatever it's planning on doing after that?

I heard that Simmons was knocking on the door for 101.7? Has anyone else heard of the same?

Not a chance in the world. Keith Kennedy is in charge period. Clear channel won't hire another PD for their Canton cluster. Simple operating procedure. Simmons may get a job as a jock but not in Management.

Word on the street is that long-time advertisers have already begun to exit: Pepsi-Cola being one of them. :(

No doubt this is just the beginning; My guess is after the Holidays there will be next to none. Best of luck to all of the employees still hanging in there! :-\

I would like to see Lynn Kelly get back into the game. Something tells me that we are gonna see country on this signal....dont know for sure, but if they image it as Canton's own country, you may just do well. Plus Country is a money maker. I dont know if Oldies will hold well, plus its a good hinge format to their Male-Female combo sale. All 25-54 too, hmmmm....money!

Personally I would love to see WKDD go hardcore Adult Top 40 and watch 101.7 move to a Snap! or Philly's 106 format. But I doubt that will be happening anytime soon

For some reason I thought they were further ahead than this ??? , but OMW is still standing by the projected date of Dec. 11th for the CC takeover of 101.7....

And..

Another story in today's TR: http://www.timesreporter.com/index.php?ID=61377&r=6&Category=5

Doesn't seem like the former owner has much interest in keeping other forms of media up to date on what's happening; Not fair to the client and definitely not fair to his employees!!!

:D I think its an indication of just how far the Times-Reporter has fallen when it resorts to sourcing OMW instead of talking to the WJER operator directly. They know where the guy lives! As a radio news director in my previous life, I find it funny that, on one day, newspapers blast blogs for being rumor mills, and the next day cite them as credible sources!

That she does.

And remember, folks, I'm HERE! I feel like I'm being talked about behind my back, or in front of my virtual face. :D

The vast, amazing staff at OMW, every single one of us, is indeed "standing by" the target date of December 11th, weather permitting. But that's basically because we haven't heard anything to derail us from that at this point.

We did make it rather clear, though, that time appears to be of the essence.

Look at the picture posted on the most recent item. As of Monday afternoon, there was finally a gravel road back there. But they have to get even a temporary building in there, move in the usual radio equipment, and most importantly, start getting steel up in the air.

Then, they have to test the thing, once that's all done...and that takes a while.

Could they still make 12/11? Possibly. CC certainly has the resources as a company to put things into motion, or I guess more accurately at this point, help Cumulus do so. But weather will put them off their game from at least late today into Saturday, so that's nearly three days out of the schedule. (Again, say after me, "weather permitting".)

Yeah, we're kinda bemused at the direct sourcing in the newspaper, too, as we put up the other day. We're flattered, of course, but...I do remember the days where newspapers didn't reprint anonymous Internet postings as first hand sources. I'm old that way. :D
