WJERFM Gone.....December 10th.....

Thats so mean! If someone is willing to keep it alive for those who care and are listening, who is being hurt??? Simply choose not to listen if you want, but it needn't be wished dead!

Hey - perhaps theres a whole new blog spot about this, but wanted to add that WJER announced themselves on air Wednesday that they were finally given word from CC about an official date - December 26 is when FM will move and AM will stay in the valley.

Kudos to Mr.Petricola for breaking the news and official departure date on the very day he himself was given the word. Speculation on earlier blogs that he was some kind of word-spinner with his responses were unfairly untrue. He honestly had not been given any date from CC before this and was not just trying to string along the listeners or advertisers.

Kuddos to GAP for making the announcement himself - sad as it may be. I've sat back and read so many negative blogs about GAP that I can no longer remain silent. I've known GAP for almost fifteen years now and he has always been more than fair, kind and generous with me. We didn't always see eye to eye and there was a time when our relationship went sour, but in the end the man helped me out when I was in dire straits. He and his staff --- every last one of them - have done a wonderful job representing the Tuscarawas Valley. WJER FM will be missed and the hope is that Gary and his investors can make the AM fly. He certainly has taken a beating on this website - some of which is deserved and much of it has been mean spirited and unnecessary. Best of luck to Gary in his new endeavor and his staff!

Yes, not sure why this had turned into such a personal bashing. Well, actually, know one reason - the originator of this particular blog subject later admitted to being an ex-employee who had issues. Very glad to hear from some of the quiet majority who would fight to the end in defense of a wonderful community leader.

Umm, this isn't a blog, it's a message board. That thing I do? It's a blog...and not everyone commenting to it is me. Heck, almost no one is me, unless I'm logged in...that's me. :D

The date we had reported on OMW (Dec. 11) was as "right as rain". It is, as far as all of our sources in both cities have said, was the date Mr. Petricola was originally given as the date Clear Channel intended to take over the 101.7 operation. In fact, Mr. Petricola himself (according to two sources in-house there) originally told employees that the FM would end being in his operation December 1st!

The construction at 22nd and Whipple was clearly not going to be done by that date, as anyone who read OMW, seen the pictures or even gone by the site - it's out in public, right at the end of the street - could tell you. We said every single time that the 12/11 date was "weather permitting" and other issues related to a construction project could (and did) come into play.

I'm glad Mr. Petricola has "come clean" about the date and the status of the project we've been reporting for months now. If I were him, I wouldn't have responded to the T-R article - where he said "I don't know anything about that date". Just say you don't talk about ongoing business matters, and will do so when you're able to do so. He was pushed into responding in a newspaper to an item in A BLOG, for crying out loud.

I mean, we like what we do and all...but...we know our place in the Media Pantheon. We thought a blog wasn't equivalent to the daily newspaper of record in a community, but...
