No, 95.5 is NOT that kind of station. There's a huge difference between Lonestar and 95.5. The non-country songs being played by 95.5 ARE "cheesy soft rock" songs. The format is equivalent to a countryized Mix 92.9.
Jason, maybe you need to change the 9-volt battery in your old transistor if you thing Foxx and Ford sound alike on air.
As much as I like Lonestar -- I find myself streaming it several times a week now -- I don't think you'll see KDF going Lonestar. But I could see them mixing in Southern Rock with Hot or Modern Country, and it being successful, given that much of KDF's heritage was built on Skynard and ZZ Top. If KDF doesn't add Southern Rock first, I could see a Cromwell pairing of a Lonestar-type format with the Buzz as being potentially more successful than what they're doing now. But I couldn't see KDF adopting a full-blown Lonestar format.
Lonestar will play Stevie Ray Vaughn, zz Top and I even heard them play a fairly deep cut from The Black Crows.
I think Lonestar is taking some pretty big risks by what they are doing. If it works, look for this to spread across the USA like Rosie O Donnel's waist line after scarfing down a box of Kryspy Cream jelly doughnuts. Ok, bad joke, but the format wil spread. LOL
Judging by some of the posts in here, I think this format would be well received in Nashville.
But I say this as a long time Nashville resident, Nashville has never been a town to take very many risks in radio terms.
