WKNR's major announcement

Anybody want to throw in their $0.02 on what WKNR's major announcement will be tomorrow?

1 rule - Don't say Rizzo to afternoons.

The new flagship station of the Lake Erie Crushers.

Oh, and Munch will take on Triv in PMD.
 
Their past "major announcements" have been disappointments.

If there ever was a God, Craig would buy the ESPN Radio affiliate in Denver and move Goldhammer there as PD. Anything else would be unacceptable IMO.

And honestly, IDK what the planned announcement is. And I'm trying to care, but it's really difficult to do so. :-\
 
They are not getting rid of Rome and they are not getting rid of M&M in the Morning.....

So, they will probably change up the local lineup. Maybe move Reghi in the 9-noon slot, Rizzo from 3-6 and Roda from 6-10 and then use the post game shows or the other current programming they air after 10pm. Keep it local until midnight and then pick up the ESPN at midnight.

They need to get rid of thwo kids in the morning with Rizzo. Its like listening to college radio.

I know they have contracts with the Monsters, but it seems like almost every time there is a Buckeyes game on, I try to tune it in and get Monsters hockey instead. I mean, Cleveland is the second biggest Ohio State town in the world and The Bucks are the current # 1 ranked team in the country. You'd think they would have thought out these conflicts ahead of time.....

Ps. I dont dislike Monsters on the radio. I have enjoyed it many times, but when I tune in to hear something specific, something that they advertise and crow about, being the home of Ohio State in Cleveland, I would expect to hear what I am looking for.

That's the only option (sorry, vjm). Moving Rizzo's start time to 8am is impossible, as the ESPN Radio affiliation would be severely jeopardized. And you can't scoot the show's time to 9a-1p or 10a-2p without ruining the only good asset WKNR has in Romey.

If this ISN'T the case, then it's some stupid announcement proclaim Goldhammer as @$$ PD once again (as if Gibbs' PD role wasn't a thankless one already).

And college radio is offended by the comparisons to Goldhammer and Ned. Seriously. They are far worse than college radio... heck, they make Petros Papadakis look good. ::)
 
Even if their big announcement is not that big, they still accomplished what they set out to do... and that is to get the sportstalk radio listeners to talk about it which will get them to tune in, which is what any station wants. Be sure to all tune in.
 
I vote for a winter charity golf tournament, along the lines of Akron's Chili Open.


(Yes, that's the kind of announcement they've hyped before.)
 
Whatever it is, 'KNR is promoting the "major announcement" on its website, and says it's at 11 AM...

I don't recall them giving such announcements a website banner before.

It's not what "we all think"? No winter charity golf tournament? WKNR isn't changing its name to "Mix 850 WMVX"? ;)
 
I'm hearing a very strong rumor 10 minutes out:

Rizzo adds an hour to his existing show.

9 AM-1 PM.

'KNR ships hour 1 of Jim Rome over to Puny 1540 KNR2.
 
Rizzo: "When the big announcement comes out, you can see why I'm going to need a straitjacket", talking about working with Hammer, Fedor, et al.

That's a comment that would certainly make sense if the announcement is an hour expansion.

Rome fans will be furious beyond belief.
 
1) Less commercial load on WKNR. I think they said it would be cut be two minutes. I doubt the in-show sponsors count, but still a good move.

2) Munch in the Morning is added upon, with two more hours on KNR2 from 7am-9am. Nice if you can get KNR2 on your radio.

3) Rizzo from 9a-1p. Dumb dumb move. Rome's the only true asset they have. (Did WWGK ever give up on their upgrade to 3,500 watts?)
 
Yep, it is official.

Rome fans and according to CK, Rome himself, will not be happy.

A winner here? Clear Channel's WARF/1350 Akron "Fox Sports 1350", which will gain a lot of Cleveland market listeners from noon to 1.
