WKNR's major announcement

The Goldhammer family, on the other hand... well, I've always had a really bad vibe about him and them since day one. But I won't let it go further than that... for now. ;)

Creepy vibe for sure.

I gotta believe Papa Goldhammer put at least his $0.02 in.

Let's get down to brass tax here---

Would Aaron Goldhammer have any kind of job in radio at all if Daddy didn't at least have a piece of the pie?

There's gotta be a reason why he feels like he owns the place, right?

And why DID he get the assistant program director slot mere months after Craig took over WKNR, when the station was essentially without a PD for nearly three years?

Thinking about that question sometimes leads to severe insomnia for me.

Cold hard truth time...

Aaron Goldhammer would come in dead freaking last if he had his own show.

He has no talent, no voice for radio, and can't run a board.

And Hammer shouldn't get too much credit for the big name guests Rizz gets...a lot are ESPN analysts who make the rounds of all the affiliates, and a lot of the pro athletes come on because they have something to shill.

Craig Karmazin forced him on Tony Rizzo when Rizz came aboard (Rizz admitted as much when he let slip a couple of years ago that he had someone else in mind for the sidekick role...presumably former Fox 8 intern/then Metro update guy Daryl Ruiter).

CK knew Rizzo was gonna be his signature local show, show he hitched Hammer onto Rizzo's wagon.

Craig almost has an undying loyalty to Hammer, bringing him over from Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to put him on what is the biggest radio station in his portfolio.

It's as if he owes Hammer something. ("I'll bankroll your company if you put my bratty kid on the radio").

Hammer also tries too hard to be Mr "Anti (fill in the blank)", it's as if he's a pro wrestler trying to get over his gimmick.

If CK sells WKNR or leaves the Cleveland market entirely, how quick you think Hammer goes with him?

If there's no CK, there's no Hammer.

No one can tell me that they're not intertwined in behind the scenes ways.

It's not 'cold hard truth' as it is more stating the blatant obvious. Actually, it's both.

Either way, I gave up on listening to Rizzo a long time ago. It's a shame because I liked Rizzo on Lanigan's show, but tRBS is out-and-out unlistenable. As long as Craig owns the station, it can't be saved. (And when a friend of mine - who is far, far from a conservative - listens to Glenn Beck instead BECAUSE of Aaron, you have a problem.)

You're dead-on right with the last point, and it's one I usually try to state to people that are furious at Aaron. He's essentially tenured for life at WKNR/Good Karma because of the cozy friendship Aaron and Craig have.

Are you mad at Aaron? Turn all of the fury to Craig instead. I removed 850 from my car radio and walkman presets. Doubt I'm the only one.

At times, I really wish Michael Luczak was still the program director. :-\

Most likely it's true, but " tenured " means nothing to rich children like Hammer and Mel's little boy.
"Accomplishing something on their own" is a foreign concept in their daily frame of reference. Everything was and continues to be handed to them. "Here son, go play radio"!
The arrogance and " creepy vibe " compounds audience displeasure when you add the "life of the rich and famous" aspect. Rich kids being spoiled with radio stations. Listeners/sports fans first got de-reg (which was bad enough) then this. Both kids being from different geography and completely different universes does not serve "Cleveland Sports Fan". Serve's their egos yessir!

Anyone ever notice that while other producers/sidekicks on all the other shows on WKNR come and go, Hammer is tethered to Rizzo with a chain.

I honestly think if Rizzo would put his foot down more, Hammer would either be off the show or at least become wallpaper.

At this stage of Rizzo's life though, I think he'd rather just eat his free food, ring his cowbell, and collect a paycheck.

Has anyone ever sat down with Hammer and explained to him that people listen for Rizzo, not him?

People appreciate the Josh Sabos, Jeff Thomases, and Daryl Ruiters of the world, because they didn't try to come off as the smartest guys in the room all the time like Hammer (and to a degree Ned) always have to do.

On his own accord, Hammer couldn't get a weekend show on KNR2.

When people are pulling the strings, he's on the signature local show which forces portions of both Mike and Mike and Jim Rome over to the smaller, secondary flanker station.

I agree entirely with alot of what has been said regarding Aaron Goldhammer.Nothing is to change and is probably going to get worse as long as CK owns the station.I have had enough of WKNR and the idiots that host there shows and would like to pose this question. Why don't we have a competing local sports station? People listen to these garbage shows because they have no other choice if they wanna talk local Cleveland sports.

I'm no expert but I imagine the Jim Rome contract is a big deal, because the only company in the market that would likely try this would be Clear Channel, and they like to use the Fox Sports Radio network (since they own it), with Dan Patrick and Jim Rome being the anchors of the lineup. Although I could see them starting a sports station and putting a local show at noon, which might be a good idea. Hit WKNR where their weaknesses are, which is signal, PBP contracts (which Clear Channel dominates here), and lack of a local morning show (Munch on KNR2 doesn't count). If The Lake doesn't work out I can see a sports format there someday.

Looks like The Lake is off to a roaring start.

I think the CC mindset is they have a ton of dollars invested in sports already on WTAM. They pay a fortune to the 3 pro franchises for rights fees.

If CC gets their hands on Rome, their best bet would be putting him on WMMS.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

Rome would fit right in to the man-cave motif 100.7 has going with Rover, Cox, the Browns, the handful of Tribe/Cavs games, and the rock music they play evenings/overnight and weekends.

Amen, amen! I totally agree. If CC/WMMS did that, that would more than cripple WKNR.
