Dude, just saying...he was the one answering the phone and possibly I still believe (or make-believe would be better) that radio may, just may, have a little bit of old-fashioned customer service/"give the public what they like because you are here to serve the public" attitude and listen to the concerns of a dedicated listener. I was just sharing what I was told and unlike others that post on boards, I was quoting my source so-to-speak. Hell, I wouldn't know Matt Allen from anyone on the street, really don't care to either, but if he is the frontline of the station from 6-10am because he answers the phone, then maybe he might know something to tell people. Surely they (WKRD) wouldnt think that people wouldn't notice the change . . .
The reality of radio is this: If they have info they want you to know, they will say it on the radio. (That's called "Promotion")
If they aren't saying it on the radio, it's a secret, and they aren't going to tell you if you call them on the phone.
They often don't tell the air staff about changes like that, especially when it's a SECRET. (Telling sales people would be even worse.) And the people who know, aren't talking until they are ready for you to know...at which time they will promote the hell out of it.
So if Matt Allen was trusted with this info and he enjoys being trusted like that, he's not going to blab it to a listener calling on the phone. The stock line is, "I know of no plans."
The bottom dollar in radio = unhappy listeners. I bet UofL, some advisers, the folks that brag about producing "The Early Birds" (Bisig?) love the fact that if you are driving behind the Kaden Towers, under more that 2 powerlines, or trying to listen in the evenings/early mornings, their messages/programs is getting to no one.....
Dude. Do you park your car under the power lines? Because if you're moving, it only drops out a second. Welcome to AM radio. It did the same thing when 790 was the number one radio station in Louisville. (And maybe the USA)
At night and early mornings, they cover most of Jefferson county with a listenable signal:
WKRD Nighttime Coverage Map
They cover MOST of the population center with that signal just fine, including the area around Kaden Tower. (Especially there... that's right in their major lobe and only a few miles from their site.)
If you can't cover Bullitt County... you can't cover Bullitt County. That's not the same as "not getting to no one."
I'm pretty sure the folks at Clear Channel realize they lost something when they lost the FM. If it makes financial sense, you can bet they will show up on another FM. If not, they won't.
