If this was CC or in a market that was bigger, stunting would have already began.
Possible formats:
Sports
Classic Hits
CHR
Hot AC or AC
Let me tell you why I believe in each format:
Sports: Simulcast ESPN on 101.5 - more of a large market move, but it'd make sense to try to boost the ratings up for ESPN. Not a big FM Sports guy, but would be a typical move.
Classic Hits: There's no real powerful classic hits outlet in the market. The Eagle sounds good, but doesn't ever generate a ratings buzz. This is probably the most less likely of them all because it'd have little competition with Fly. Plus, there's no need for two classic hits stations in the same market.
CHR: Would be a good battle. HOT does well, but has fallen off since the summer. I know Scott programs Hot to the market, but sometimes I hear urban sets, other times, rhythmic. The best thing to do would be to make Hot 1029 a lot like Power in Columbus. Still plays the major rhythmic crossover artists like Rihanna and Usher, but not jumping on Far East Movement and Ke$ha. Turn 1015 into Z and bring the real CHR sound back to Dayton. Channel 945 actually had a huge jump last book and jumped ahead of Fly, right underneath The X and a few points away from Mix. If marketed right, Z1015 would be right back on top of 945 and in the words of Charlie Sheen, "Win!" Plus, would save money because Scott could program both stations.... although he got lazy with Z towards the end.
Hot AC/AC: Would be safe enough, and then you'd have two stations after Clear Channel. If I did Hot AC... would be a very current-sounding adult CHR that shares a few songs with Hot such as Cee-Lo Green, Taio Cruz, and Pink. Plus, this would steal from Channel 945. Easy enough to program, and Mix isn't powerful now anyway. As far as AC, it'd have to be something like Rewind in Dayton or MOViN to do any damage to Lite. They do pretty well.
Here's the thing: Kiss Country pulled a 1.3 in the last book and changing frequencies isn't going to help that much. Competing with K99.1 is not smart. They are pulling consistent 7's and 8's in the book. They sound good. They're heritage. You're not going to steal much from their share at all. You're gonna need to put something fun, exciting, and different on 1015... I hope it's CHR, but knowing Main Line, they'll keep it country and fail.
Just my two cents.
