WKSW Enon Ohio

Their authorization for their old tower site is now "obsolete", so they will be on 101.5 and their new tower site sooner or later. I asked a FCC Consulting Engineer about the WKSW situation and was told the old site is "obsolete" as far as the Commission was concerned. Their new tower site
is built and tested. Maybe the programing dept. is not ready to go and/or their Dayton studio is not ready to go.

Why WKSW is not yet on their new licensed tower site is odd, even to him. It's also not typical for a FCC filings, I'm told.

At some point, one has to ask some questions that under normal circumstances would go unasked. Here they are :

* Could they misunderstand the directional antenna policy that requires they operate at half power until FCC approval for full power operation is approved and be waiting for that approval?

* Is there any chance in the world that they are on the new site and 'forgot' to change the frequency?

I almost feel bad asking these questions, but this seems to be well outside of even the loosest definition of 'good engineering practice'. There's a story here...

9 AM Thursday, March 17th, 2011, and they're STILL on 101.7...and as Kiss Country.
As far as I know, they're still in the Springfield Derr Rd. studio.
I wonder if we should put Sherlock Holmes on this mystery as to why they have a brand new tower and stronger signal and why in the blue hell they're still on 101.7 that broadcasts to the corn fields of Clark and Champaign County. ???

Does the consturction permit not expiring untl May 16th allow them stay on old tower and Freq. until then? They might have a contract with a sponcer that they might have to "refund" a large amount of money might be a reason to wait.

It has been a mystery since day one what Main Line will do in Dayton. They have made mistake after mistake. Their only real success, since they took over ,was the Fly. They said when they took over they were not interested in cleaning house. Well, the truth is they got rid of more staff people in the first ten months then this market has seen for a while. They made a huge mistake not keeping Market Manager Don Griffin who knew the market and produced results.

I don't know much about the market managers who Main Line brought in but they never really had an impact. Let's face it everyone knows Main Line overpad by a huge market for the stations. They could have made more money on WING then they have but they either they don't care or don't know what to do with it.

I don't know what Kiss bills but they have a loyal audience base and seems to be doing O-K on their spot load. Since day one Main Line has never known what to do with the station.
They don't seem to have the right people to turn it into a successful sports radio station and they have never showed in any of their markets that they are committed to putting good local talent on the air.

I doubt that the hold up is based on a sponsor contract. Any other company would have made a move by now because I understand they have studio space.

Main Line might go the Oldies route too with Kiss because they have done this in their home base of Richmond, Virginia.Think about it any other company in the business would have made the move by now but not Main Line.

What's really sad I have got to believe that the Kiss staff has got to be holding their breath waiting to see what is going to happen. Some of us have been there and it is not fun. I hope that whatever Main Line does they will keep the current staff as we have enough people losing their jobs in our business.

I had no idea they were still using the studio on Derr Rd... Last time I was there was in 1989.

Where exactly is the "Urbana" tower site for WKSW? In all these years of traveling Ohio, that's one I have not seen.

The "obsolete" Urbana tower site for WKSW on 101.7 looks to be about halfway in between Urbana and Northridge.

It's out on Dallas Rd. right off of Route 68 North. I see it every time I head up through Urbana. It's just slightly past Northridge and the International Truck Plant. The tower is easily seen from US 68 North.

Is it the free standing tower NE of the U.S.68 / Dallas Rd intersection? From google earth, it almost looks like an old AT&T long lines installation...

Main Line actually hasn't done a bad job. Obviously Scott Sharp knows what he's doing with Hot to be getting excellent ratings, and has practically stole over half of Z93's old numbers. As for WROU, I heard they're the #1 AC station in Dayton. They also produce excellent numbers. Fly and KISS are actually perform the worst out of all of them.

Fly might be more successful if they would throw on a real morning show and add in some personality in other day parts. I know it's not going to happen, but I can wish can't I?
Danielle does a great job, but it's hard trying to be a one-jock army.
Fly should be doing much better than they are, especially being on one of the Dayton area's best signals.

Reaching that transmitter site after a big snowstorm (or ice storm) must be fun. ::) For the CE's sake, hopefully the new site is a little closer to the pavement.

The new site does not appear to be too far from I70/route 235 looking at google maps.. so easier access I am sure.

No doubt! The 101.7 WKSW tower is on a very hill-acious road...and back in a slightly woods-y type area. The new tower HAS to have a better location than this old tower.

Oh yeah...as of 5:18 PM EST they are STILL on the 101.7 frequency. You'd think by now the FCC would've hit them with some heavy fines for not moving to their correct frequency on the dial. This is just baffling. How does Main Line get away with this crap?
