WKSW move to Enon approved

Doubt it. Smooth Jazz just doesn't cut it much anymore. I doubt WKSW will stay country when they're trying to do a Dayton move in. They can carve out a little audience in Springfield, but nobody beats K99.1

There isn't anyway anyone's going to dislodge K99.1 without tons and tons of money and promotion, and even then its iffy.

This was Radio One's application for the move. No doubt it would have been some type of Urban format, my guess being black gospel or even a place to air Radio One's talk shows. I wonder if Mainline knows exactly what to do with this. Thery're making a buck in Springfield, it they're the 22nd ranked station in Dayton, what then? Anybody look for a sale to KLove?

And it's probably worth noting here that the station, which at one time years ago carried about a 3 share 12 plus in the Dayton market has sunk well into the low ones lately.

You're right about Smooth Jazz not being profitable. But, so far, we've seen 106.5 go from a solid 2 to 2 1/2 share station to about a point nothing. And, that's no "bull".

The Bull is a flop!! It's not going to do anything with all this country around! Nobody has the balls to do anything good for Dayton... wish someone would prove me wrong.

CC made a dumb move by trying Country on 106.5 AGAIN when it was a proven flop ten years ago as "Suckeye Country", I mean "Buckeye Country". Jammin 106.5 was another flop(Jammin' sure didn't have much Mojo in the ratings). K-99.1 is the Country leader in Dayton like WCOL is in Columbus...NO ONE beats them. This signal has problems because of where it's located, in Greenville, but at least when it was Smooth Jazz people actually tried to pick up their station. Now no one cares. What a shame. :'(

At the tiome 106.5 was Jammin' Oldies, Mojo 94-9 was pulling a couple of shares out of Dayton. Guess CC figured they'd grab those shares...but it didn't work.

Mainline could go some form of AC or Oldies on this signal, but I heard rumor that they were thinking of moving Urban AC to 101.5 and debut a new format on 92.1. Either way 92.1 is a terrible signal, but ESPN 92.1 kinda makes sense!!

People had said they could see Talk going on the new FM, but that would be suicide with WHIO-FM breathing down your neck.

Bonneville had made a run at 105.9 when it first moved into the market but that fell thru because they also wanted to sell 104.1 Portsmouth in the deal, not good of course! However with WNLT 104.3 moving into Cincinnati, Bradens is going to power down WPAY to 90,000 watts. The new 104.3 will be a full market signal owned by Vernon but he wants to sell last I heard. So could we see a straight up swap with K-Love for 104.3? Maybe K-Love gets 104.1 in Portsmouth and Braden gets 104.3 and 105.9?

WPAY is not powering down. They are staying at 100kw but reducing class from C to C0, which reduces the distance separation that WNLT must maintain towards them. This is what will allow WNLT to move into the metro.

I doubt K-Love has any use for WPAY. K-Love is already covering Portsmouth, Ashland, and Huntington on other signals they own.

EMF may offer to buy Vern out once 104.3 is moved. They are leasing both 104.3 and 102.3 in Wilmington from Baldwin. However, if I was Baldwin, why sell, when all I have to do is sit back and collect the checks? Maybe even jack the LMA rate once WNLT is upgraded...

New format for Kiss: Urban Country! Fits the Mainline mold. Let's see, Cowboy Troy, Big Al Downing, can't forget the Pointer Sisters "Fairytale"....hmmm, not much of a rotation. Snoop Dogg do any country songs? He'd be dynamite with Gretchen Wilson!)

Actually Snoop did some recordings with Willie Nelson. There was a distinctive smelling smoke in the at those sessions air I heard, but he would be killer with Gretchen Wilson.

And the gold category headlined by Charlie Pride. And Darius Rucker is riding high on the current country charts...this may be the start of something huge!

Oh Good Lord, help us all. ;D

This may be sad for me, having worked at Kiss during the 3 share days, but so goes life!
If I had financial ability to wrestle Kiss from Main Line, I would try and get on repeater on 105.9. Signal is good in Dayton, plus Kiss has great signal currently in Clark county. The tricky part is positioning Kiss for the future and take on K-99. Plus there is the added bonus of a decent signal in Cincinnati.
The success of Kiss was due in part to its local branding and great sales staff under former manager Roger M. He was strict, but then I WAS only 19 and thought I knew more than I did.
This may not work, but I am asking what could it hurt? Use LIVE dayparts- If the product is right, and the ads can be sold is there a limit to its potential? Turn it around like Mark did for 95.7 after Brian....

True, k99.1 is a tough nut to crack. But I do not believe you need to beat them to win and make major value out of your investment. In Warren and Butler counties, WPFB's backyard is close if not to 500,000 people. Plus the 175,000 in Clark and Champaign counties. Conquer them and take 2 pts. from K and you could be looking at a 5 share for Dayton and possibly a 4 four the Cincy book. That could grab the attention of the national ad buyers and increase your market value in the process. If you can hold strong with the ratings, and when the feds combine Cincy and Dayton in their metro statistics I believe it would be a gold mine. Maybe wrong, but you never know.......

It will NEVER happen. Count on it.

...and what about Urbana?

Since the move is a given...Urbana now needs it's own community station.

Urbana High School once had WUHS....its own station at 91.7 FM but went silent in 1989.

Unless a window opens soon for an LPFM,some enterprising individual may want to start up a micropower or internet station or a micropower that streams.

A micropower version of Ottawa's WPNM is on the air...it also streams for the rest of Putnam County.

After WUCO Marysville moved its studios to Columbus as "St. Gabriel Radio" Gene Kirby of WRPO started up WMHO a micropower AM.

Now before the corporate sharks start sharpening their teeth, may I add that these are Part 15 legal broadcasters who have stepped up to fill a local void..they are NOT pirate stations...so leave them alone and let them serve their small communities.

More info about micropower stations that serve a community purpose is found here.
