WKVE 103.1 testing with classic rock

Over the last month I've heard WKVE testing the 103.1 Mt Pleasant signal. They have been testing with a fairly deep classic rock format complete with ID's and sweepers. The signal was very strong in West Mifflin with it being clearly receivable on even a cheap clock radio. The sound however was badly distorted like something in the air chain was being overdriven. It will be interesting to see how the signal fares over the Pittsburgh metro area. The deep classic rock format will make a nice alternative to DVE.

It’s an interesting choice of call letters too given the classic rock format and close dial position to DVE.

Deep Tracks is my favorite Sirius channel. There are many reasons I don't listen to commercial music radio anymore. Among them, the fact that the playlists are so limited and repetitive. I know, I know, repetition and familiarity sell, and I'm clearly in the minority. But personally, I'll take Led Zeppelins "Achilles Last Stand" over "Stairway to Heaven" any day of the week. I wish this station nothing but the best.

103.1 The Cave? Get your classic rock in the cave.... lost cave classics... Caveman Ralph mornings.... Pebbles middays... Fred & Barney afternoons... night guy Bam Bam...

Sorry, I need another cup of coffee.....

The call letters were previously used at Bob's radio station in St. Mary's PA (97.5, now WDDH) and he was able to
make a deal to get them from the K-Love people, who had been using them on a station in North Carolina. I don't
think they have any other significance.

Actually, wouldn't the morning host be "Captain Caveman"? With his son doing traffic? (Anyone else remember "Captain Caveman and Son" from the "Flintstone Kids" program?)

Radio... so easy, even a caveman can do it! ;D

On that note, why don't the Pirates try to sign Johnny Damon. The team needs a leader and he needs to get free of Joe Girardi's hair rules.

He already signed a 1-year contract with the Detroit Tigers for IIRC, 8 Million. I don't think the Pirates current ownership would have ever considered paying that much for him.

Brian Johnson performed at Johnny Damon's wedding, so I believe the Pirates and this new classic rock station missed some sort of opportunity.

Curses! WRIF tops what other classic rock stations do- AGAIN!

They're not Girardi's rules -- they're the Steinbrenner's rules. :)

Let me know when they hire the Slag Brothers. They can do remotes around Pittsburgh in the Bouldermobile.

As for the 103.1 Signal , Durning the Snow Storm two weeks ago when they were broadcasting "Snow Storm Alerts". They werre loud and clear on a sony walkman in North Hills, I'm Looking Forward to The New Sound of 103.1. Good Luck Bob Stevens.

anybody know what Stevens plans are for Greene county? will the "local" station be on 105.1 or will it just be an am station at 1210? WANB hs been at 103.1 for 32 years. people will be confused at best. Maby Stevens will just sell 105.1. just asking to see if anybody has any info.

Bob reads this board, let him reply if he so chooses, but it is my understanding that 1210 and 105.1 will simulcast
the present WANB programming. WANB recently has been running announcements encouraging people to re-tune
from 103.1 to 105.1 (or to 1210).

True, but Joe Girardi imposed similiar rules in Miami when he managed there. He even banned mustaches which George never did.

I met Bob Stevens Once in 1976 at WLSW Radio, He Told me That Mt Pleasant Would Be a Good Place for an FM Station. And how he could do it . Now 34 years later he is Making it a Reality. Good Luck Bob. It's nice to see a Hard "Working Class" Person make a Dream come True.

As I understand it, "THE SO CALLED SWITCH IS TO OCCUR--LATER THIS WEEK".

IT IS A SHAME THAT BCI HAS RUINED A GOOD, LOCAL RADIO STATION IN GREENE COUNTY.

HE TOOK CONTROL OF THE STATION, IRONICALLY ON APRIL 1, 2002. ENOUGH SAID!

WE ARE NOW LEFT WITH A VERY POOR SIGNAL ON 105.1 THAT DOESN'T EVEN COVER THE WESTERN END OF THE COUNTY. AS FOR THE 1210 SIGNAL, YOU CAN PICK IT UP ALL OVER THE TRI-STATE AREA, BUT IS "ONLY A DAYTIMER!"

IT SHOULD ALSO BE NOTED, THE OWNER HAS "NO SALES STAFF AT ALL IN WAYNESBURG."

NOTHING GETS ME MAD, AS A FORMER "ON-AIR-TALENT" AT WANB, WHEN I HEAR ADS ON 590-AM, WMBS IN UNIONTOWN (Fayette County) OR FROGGY 94.9/103.5/104.3 THAT USE TO ADVERTISE ON WANB RADIO
"BEFORE BOB STEVENS TOOK OVER THE STATION".

IT IS A SAD DAY FOR THE FOLKS IN GREENE COUNTY WHEN THIS "STUPID CHANGE" OCCURS.

OH & CLARKE, YOU FORGOT ABOUT THAT 104.1 TRANSLATOR HE IS RUNNING.

LET'S BRING BACK THE DAYS WEHN WANB RADIO WAS LIVE 24 HOURS A DAY, 7 DAYS A WEEK.

Shelley Drennen spent some time in New Martinsville, West Virginia in the '80s. She came to my classroom to discuss how songs were selected by WETZ and was extremely gracious. I told her that I was looking for a summer job, so I trained at WETZ. Things didn't work out as planned, but eventually I progressed to doing some occasional work for a couple of local stations and am also the station manager for a high school FM station.

I wish Shelley all the best in whatever she is doing now-she was a really classy lady.

anybody know what the plans are for 104.1. they are still simolcasting there along with the three other dial positions. (3fm and 1 am). what is the power at 105.1? will they still use the same stick on Gordon hill in Waynesburg for 105.1?
