WKVE 103.1 testing with classic rock

driving around the South Hills this morning could get them pretty well with only a few momentary drop-outs

BCI COULD NOT AFFORD TO PAY ME BACK IN 2008...HE SURE AS................CAN NOT AFFORD TO EVEN MENTION MY NAME .

I AM "WAY OUT OF HIS PRICE RANGE!"

C.

had 103.1 on 1-70 in St Clairsville Ohio near Ohio Valley Mall. as I headed down I-70 to Wheeling the signal fadded.

Bob...bring it!

103.1 KVE loud and Clear Driving Around North Hills, From the Attic record store in Millvale up through Babcock Bvd.to Perry Highway All the way to Borders Books in Cranberry. The Signal was Strong. I Did not go Past Borders Books. Getting it at home on a sayno Transistor Radio. Lisened last Night for an Hour . Good sounds.

From a few miles north of Delmont...

Full quieting on one clock-radio, not quite on the other.

On the Grundig 4000, full-scale on the "S" meter as soon as I extended the whip the slightest amount.

On my very sensitive JVC boom box here in the South Hills, 103.1 registers around 8 out of 10 on the signal strength
meter, which makes it a pretty strong suburban signal. Most of the Pittsburgh FMs give me 9 or 9.5 on the meter or
better. Quiet in mono, just a little noisy in stereo.

C.

On the way home I was able to get it on Sunset Blvd. in Steubenville from the mall all the way through Wintersville.(Not as loud as Y103(102.9) but listenable.

Uh huh...and you're working at what station now? Oh, that's right...NONE.

JJ...let me put it to you like this: I don't agree with every owner and operator out there that happens to own a very expensive little piece of paper. But one of the things that drives this industry is change. It happens with every industry. If a business doesn't change and evolve over time, it's going to get left in the dust. Period.

The changes that Bob has made to not one, but practically ALL of his stations, were, right or wrong, for the better, though I would have done things differently. Bob took two stations in Westmoreland County that were about 30 years behind the times technically, and sank some serious cash into making them far more valuable now than they were back then. That's someone who believes in radio enough to plan for its future. I watched the TV news story about Porky Chedwick's last day at KFB (or KHB?), and those facilities were something that Mel could only dream of.

I don't always agree with how Bob Stevens runs things, but I still do respect the man. He started with a standalone FM in '86 in an unrated market, and has built from it to four stations in a large market. More than that, his stations are a valuable resource because there's nowhere for the jocks of tomorrow to hone their craft. The market for jocks has gotten smaller, but it's still there. The Sirius XM and terrestrial network guys even had to start somewhere.

I'm sorry you lost your job. I've been blown out of gigs in the past, but I've bounded back. Because attitude is everything. You won't get anywhere in this business by burning your bridges AND blowing them up AND polluting the water underneath.

KEN & BILL, ABOUT YOUR POSTS TO ME "PERSONALLY" ON THIS SITE.

I STATED THE FACT THAT THE "KVE" SIGNAL WAS COMING IN LIKE CRAP IN WESTERN GREENE COUNTY.

THEY WANTED FEEDBACK ON THIS TOPIC OF HOW THE SIGNAL WAS DOING & I STATED MINE.

I AM "STILL IN RADIO" AND HAVE BEEN FOR 31 YEARS NOW.

I MAY NOT BE ON THE AIR, BUT I DO WORK FOR A PITTSBURGH MARKET STATION, THAT KNOW HOW TO TREAT THEIR PEOPLE WITH RESPECT.

OH AND BY THE WAY, "LOYALTY DOES MEAN A LOT TO MY CURRENT EMPLOYER!"

AS TO ALL THOSE OTHER'S WHO ARE "REPORTING THE SIGNAL REACH OF 'KVE",
THAT IS JUST GREAT AS YOU KNOW WHERE THE "FREE ADS" YOU ARE POSTING ON HERE ARE LOCATED, BUT TO ANYONE ELSE WHO MAY NOT KNOW WHERE "XYZ STORE IS OR ABC BOOKS" ARE LOCATED, THAT COULD MEAN TO ME THE SIGNAL IS ONLY GETTING OUT TO 10 MILES AWAY OR 100 MILES AWAY, SO PLEASE, INSTEAD OF PROMOTING THE STORES, GIVE "ACTUAL TOWN/CITY LOCATIONS.

I SEE THAT TREF KNOW HOW TO POST CORRECTLY

EVERYBODY ELSE, HAVE A NICE DAY, AS I WILL BER OUTSIDE ENJOYING THE WEATHER

The JVC boombox from the late 80's is a very fine piece of equipment indeed.
Glad I overpaid for one at David Weis many years ago.

It's been off the air all morning, what happened? I was looking forward of checking the signal on my drive to Oakland today.

Boomboxes and walkmans. Two of the many things they don't make like they used too. I remember the great quaility of my first Sony Walkman and my Panansonic Platinum Series Boombox.

HEY TREF:

I am sorry for the CAPS but, all my years in this business has taken a toll on my vision.

I could type in here using "20 FONT" .

Watch out for the Ohio River Floods that are forthcoming this weekend.

When did you leave WTOV-9?
I remember hearing your voice on spots they ran.

Bob played music last night until nearly 4 AM, at which point he signed off the 103.1 signal. I suspect he may be enjoying a
well-deserved nap. ;D

Not wishing anyone any ill will but I just don't see this station lasting long. Depending on how well it does reach the Pittsburgh market proper I can see K-Love or some sort of that ownership willing to purchase it. The 103.1 signal travelled well all the way south on I-79 well into Marion County, WV. Also of note, the new 1210 signal for WANB has much better coverage than expected. I can remember when the old frequency barely made it out of Waynesburg, if it was actually on and audible. Speaking of the old WANB - whatever happened to Sandy - Greene County's Cowgirl, used to like listening to her nights back in the early mid 90's.

JKF,

The last I heard about SANDY was back in the 2000-2004 when they had a hurricane in Florida. She was living there, as I recall, & she reported about the hurricane on radio.
I have no idea if she is still in Fla.

I think she still has family in Greene County.

Have a great weekend.
