WLTJ changes name to Q92.9

I'm sure they consider "BOB" a notable Pittsburgh personality..... after all, he built a Pittsburgh Radio Station! :D

Not that we need more but here's another reason this doesn't make any sense. They're saying they don't play the old, sleepy, soft-serve songs, using "I Don't Have the Heart" and "Beauty and the Beast" as examples. According to yes.com, in the last 24 hours they've played "When a Man Loves a Woman", "Hero", "Everything I Do" and "Because You Loved Me". The reason the first two are old and sleepy and the other four are not is..............................?

I had a feeling this was gonna be no big deal and I was right. That is, if your a listener.

Of course, it was a big deal if you were employed at WLTJ. Shame on you Steel City for letting so many people go around the holiday. I bet "he" used the "it's the economy and we had to cut back" rational! It sickens me to see anyone else in radio lose a job.

For the record, CC, CBS, Key Market have much more live air talent still on their stations. These companies get a lot of flack from us all but at least they are keeping the profession alive here in Pittsburgh.

This format rebranding was nothing more than an excuse to purge the "overpaid" (I'm using that term loosely) airstaff for 24/7 automation.

The research said so....

There is no doubt this station needed to do something. Not sure this is it. Its a cheap rip off of the Fresh format, which also is not performing that well.

I would imagine their going to add some younger air talent, but who? If it remains automated, the new Q and BOB would be the cheapest run duo in Pittsburgh.

Good jingles, but I hate the fresh ripoff imaging..... ::)

Based on a comment above that there would be "notable Pittsburgh personalities" I'm puzzled as to where they are going with the staff... but remember when they re-tooled RRK before it became Bob they promised "intriguing personalities" and we got Steve Rohan mid-days and the Battle/Nene bad fake commercial show.

You don't think.... nah.

I was being facetious----MIX monikers are soooooooo like 80's.It was a fad like BOB and Jack. HOt AC has been tried over and over . There was versions on WWSW, several on 100.7, and WFFM. There was jockless AC on "Clear100.7" . Since WISH has gone more contemp, 92.9 should have gone softer. Of course Renda put Tesh on WJAS, so I guess without Tesh, soft AC can't work. They could just go dark. but being Pittsburgh, why not all doo-wop with only acts born in Pittsburgh.

I'm really liking the "4 in a row". (Okay - not really). But it seems to remind me of something that another station was famous for.

Maybe the Pittsburgh Personalities will be other old B94 jocks that still aren't under the Infinity umbrella.

AFAIK Battle isn't in the area any longer (Nene still can be heard on BOB occasionally). So, not that, anyway.

Re the disco show, considering I don't think it's been a "live broadcast" for a while (as in they don't broadcast it from a club) and considering when I turned there a couple Saturdays ago they were playing definitely NOT disco, I would say it's dead already.

This station is not cutting it for just about everyone I know that used to listen to Lite Rock. Where I work a good many businesses/offices are either on Lite Rock or WISH. Everyone is not happy with the Q, nor am I. I am irritated that they left the DJs go. There weren't any that I disliked...BAD MOVE, BAD MOVE, BAD MOVE!

Sounds like this is going to be a huge flop! They should try something different like the AAA format. We don't need another soccer mom station.

Looks like they are purposely trying to kill the station, but then again that's what the kids do best over there. Well that and play games.

'Ladies and Gentlemen------you are listening to Q92.9-----the greatests hits from the 60's, 70's and today! And now here's Donnnnnnn BoMBaaard! it might work. Just get Quinn, Bombard, Dave Mason, and of course Jeff Christy--------and we are ready to rock and roll! You could do the "Groovey Q" or "92-2Q" Lot of Q's. I think a classic hits station with the old sound of WPEZ is just the ticket. WCBS can do it again, why not here in da'Burg. CLAAASSIC HITS DONE WITH THE EXCITEMENT OF 70'S TOP 40!

THIS STARTED AS A JOKE, BUT NOW IT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD IDEA. 3ws IS VULNERABLE.

I was actually going to guess at that.... wonder if Kerri Griffith's on the way as well....

And here's the weird thing about the staff that just left the building.... (and this is not intended to demean them, they're all very nice people). The morning show was on the air there for nearly 20 years, Gallagher for over 25, and yet most people in Pittsburgh had probably never heard of them.

LTJ has had the same core audience for a quarter century (literally the same people) and never did anything to pull in new listeners. At the beginning it was a pretty simple premise... just model the station after WLTW/NY, a perennial ratings leader and cash cow. But too little was done over the years.

The other side of the coin is that they are just tweaking it because business is probably OK. If you've been listening this week the spot sets are full (and by the way, if they're going to say "Here's another 4 in a row" every time, they need to change the clock in the back half of the hour so that they can actually PLAY 4 SONGS, not 3 or 2. Sheesh...). The stopsets are exactly where they were in 1991 when I last worked there.

But if you throw it all out and go AAA or New Rock or something else that's a radical departure you have to probably start over with a new client base as well. That was no problem when the B came back, the Zone was doing no business and hemmorhaging money. Not the case here at all.

"Four in a row" was the gimmick of EZ communications and used on B94, EZ104 in Richmond, and WEZC in Charlotte NC. Maybe it should be EZ92.9 . The past is chock full stuff that can be new again. But I like high energy classic hits like WCBS, Q105 in Tampa, and K-Earth in LA. Why not?

Does Rush Limbough has reverb implanted in his throat?

Can anyone explain why WISH consistently beat them? You all say Renda is cheap too. What did WISH 100 do different? They sounded pretty much the same to me. Was it Delilah? I don't know.

Why didn't CBS take Star to Fresh to jump the gun

is it just me, or does that drop-in robo-jock who ID's the songs at the end sound
just like Plankton's computer wife on Spongebob Squarepants? Interesting choice.
Part of the menu of preloaded voices that come with MAC OS, I presume?

I don't listen to the new sound of Q92.9
