WLTJ changes name to Q92.9

So you bring in someone who is known for top40 radio into an AC outlet? Did I miss a class in highscool or something???
 
I know its being said that the current call sign will remain for now as WLTJ but is that really the long term plan?

Just a thought for fun:

At the top of the hour, the call is given so quickly and it's not mentioned in any of the new jingles, so it appears they are trying to downplay it. It also doesn't fit the new "Q" image.

I am also wondering why WPNT Inc is still using a name where the call letters WPNT is available in the FCC callsign database. WPNT (The Point) was the call used prior to WLTJ.

They could bring back the call WPNT.

W (P)ittsburgh's (N)inety (T)wo (still no Q)

I see some other choices are available.

WMQX (MIX)
WMKQ
WMQK
WQMM (Q Music Mix)

Again... just for fun...

As much as I hate to think this of my fellow Pittsburghers, Delilah probably did have a lot to do with it.

I can't put it into words, but I definitely did hear a difference between the two. It was like 92.9 was B94 for grownups and WISH was for the doctor's office.
 
Well the same company didn't change the call letters from WRRK to reflect the new format at Bob-FM. So I wouldn't be surprised if they kept WLTJ.
 
And besides, even when it was 'lite', what did the J stand for, anyway?
 
It was probably the only call available with the "LT" in it at the time. I'm sure WLTR (lite-rock) was already taken.

The "J" in WLTJ was just a random filler... the station was modeled after WLTW/NY. It was a much softer AC at inception.

WSHH has been around much longer and had huge 12+ numbers in its beautiful music days. (Interestingly, for the first few months 13Q was actually simulcast on 99.7... no telling what would have happened if they had left that the way it was!!). WSHH eventually evolved into an A/C as well. It always had bigger 12+ numbers than LTJ, but LTJ was usually stronger in the target 35-54 female demo (WSHH always skewed older).

I think over the recent times WSHH's main advantage has been more promotion. You always saw more billboards (where's Radio Realist when you need him?). Not sure if either station did TV commercials as I don't really watch the shows they would buy... and dial position had something to do with it as well.... you don't bump into 92.9 by accident as easily as 99.7. Just by sheer location WSHH would share cume with Star and Froggy. You had a to have a reason to surf down to 92.9, and they rarely did anything to drive sampling of the station, so it got stale and died.
 
There's one good thing about this format change. Weekender Ted Matthews got let go.

John Kline is a good pick up. But he's been on the beach for two years, meaning no one else wanted him.

I remember when Ted Matthews was the PD at WESA 98.3 in the late 90's. It will be
interesting to see who Q 92.9 picks up for middays, late afternoons, nights and overnights. Does anybody have any info on that?
 
Q 92.9 sounds like a radio station from when I was a kid. The cheesy early 90's jingles and all.

My guess for evenings and overnights will be nobody (hence Plankton's computer wife with the song titles...)
 
Back when WPNT went to WLTJ, they were very soft. The competition was 3WS, WFFM, and WCLR. At that time, they sounded the most professional except they were jockless overnights which was unusual then. Then WSHH blew them all away it seems. I always wondered what WLTJ failed to do. They didn't even use the term "light rock", but Lite Music" allowing them the occasional Sinatra cut. It looks like Renda is throwing WJAS away as they are only live about 8 hours a day. It still seems to me that going softer would make sense now. BOB, Star, and B94 have every possible version of Hot AC covered. WSHH is also "hotter". This makes no sense.

Who is John Cline? Wasn't he in that movie about the Yuppies in South Carolina? The one with William Hurt? Or was that John Cigna? Murray Sline?------I give up.
 
We used to listen to WLTJ because it was "office appropriate." Now that it's Q92.9, the jingles are what made me change the station right away...we've switched it to B94 and leave it there...tired of caring if it is "appropriate" or not. B94 is a little bit lighter than KISS...B94 RULES! :)

You're not exactly a TYPICAL radio user. (a) most people would never be posting on a radio website, and (b) go to something even LESS "office appropriate" than 92.9 because of JINGLES? Yeah, I've sat through many afocus group where people say, "yeah, but because of the jingles, I'm listening to [xxxx]..."

Not sure the "lighter than Kiss" line will work in B's favor, either. (So far, ratings-wise, they continue to have their work cut out for them...)
