WLTJ changes name to Q92.9

Can anyone explain why WISH consistently beat them? You all say Renda is cheap too. What did WISH 100 do different? They sounded pretty much the same to me. Was it Delilah? I don't know.

As much as I hate to think this of my fellow Pittsburghers, Delilah probably did have a lot to do with it.

I can't put it into words, but I definitely did hear a difference between the two. It was like 92.9 was B94 for grownups and WISH was for the doctor's office.

I believe that Delilah is Option #7 on the MAC OS voice menu.

Perhaps that voice is really the 96 KX Call Girl calling in from the
pay phone at the retirement home?

We used to listen to WLTJ because it was "office appropriate." Now that it's Q92.9, the jingles are what made me change the station right away...we've switched it to B94 and leave it there...tired of caring if it is "appropriate" or not. B94 is a little bit lighter than KISS...B94 RULES! :)

You're not exactly a TYPICAL radio user. (a) most people would never be posting on a radio website, and (b) go to something even LESS "office appropriate" than 92.9 because of JINGLES? Yeah, I've sat through many afocus group where people say, "yeah, but because of the jingles, I'm listening to [xxxx]..."

Not sure the "lighter than Kiss" line will work in B's favor, either. (So far, ratings-wise, they continue to have their work cut out for them...)

I'm guessing that youngabe is including the constant announcing of songs (something I never thought I'd complain about) in the "jingles" category. I can't imagine having this station on when you are trying to get your groove on, if you know what I mean. But the jingles themselves are REALLY annoying and distracting.

B94 is doing what they used to do, playing slightly lighter stuff during the 9-5 and saving the more "urban" cuts for after work hours.

How many markets have competing mainstream AC stations anyway? If LA only has one and NYC just recently got a second, why can't WSHH have that office market alone? Atlanta only has one. I would imagine that unless Q does something fantastic, WSHH will go up in the ratings and like Jacksonville, Renda will have the only AC. With the internet, you can get them all anyway if you want them

They should dump those jingles. They sound too old and is so OUTDATED. Instead go for a more, updated sound like other stations; even the "Fresh" package used in NYC sounds alright and is modern.

I am still creeped out by the woman bot doing the outros. Cleveland has the same thing on WMVX and it's creepy.

Like we didn't know the song was Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight".

Trust me, 40 year old moms think Phil Collins is their kids assistant soccer coach or the guy who delivers the subs for the band fundraiser.

like the flipside of those old Beautiful Muzak stations that would routinely
play "Beth" by KISS, without ever identifying the artist...

It will be interesting to see who Q 92.9 picks up for middays, late afternoons, nights and overnights. Does anybody have any info on that?
My guess for evenings and overnights will be nobody (hence Plankton's computer wife with the song titles...)
I wouldn't be surprised if Saul were to lure Sheri Van Dyke away from 3WS.

I'm not liking the new format. I don't care about the name. I hate that squeaky voice at the end of each song. I want to hear a news update and a weathe report once in a while!!!!

I'll be switching over to WISH VERY VERY SOON!

:-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

that's a shame peaches. there's much better radio out there than WISH. Or, should I say WSHH. WZPT is even better than WSHH for crying out loud. ::)

Back when WPNT went to WLTJ, they were very soft. The competition was 3WS, WFFM, and WCLR. At that time, they sounded the most professional except they were jockless overnights which was unusual then. Then WSHH blew them all away it seems. I always wondered what WLTJ failed to do. They didn't even use the term "light rock", but Lite Music" allowing them the occasional Sinatra cut. It looks like Renda is throwing WJAS away as they are only live about 8 hours a day. It still seems to me that going softer would make sense now. BOB, Star, and B94 have every possible version of Hot AC covered. WSHH is also "hotter". This makes no sense.

Who is John Cline? Wasn't he in that movie about the Yuppies in South Carolina? The one with William Hurt? Or was that John Cigna? Murray Sline?------I give up.

Actually, when PNT first switched calls and took the Lite Moniker, they were manned overnight for probably at least five years. First by Jean Lamb, and then by Beth Bershok, who read the traffic for Gary Love the following morning. Then it was decided to make Gary and Beth a team, and that's when they went Robojock on the overnight.

And, when WSHH went Soft AC from easy listening around 1988, they didn't overtake LTJ overnight. It took a lot of time on their part. Once they started gaining momentum, they've pretty much stayed the course. Plus, their promotions were big...it's hard to compete with something like the "WSHH of a Lifetime Dream Home". Not many stations are doing that today. Tony knows how to promote his stations...WELL.

WJAS is scoring a 4.8 as of the Winter '08 book, well ahead of ESPN 1250 and KQV, not to mention their own WPTT. How is that bad? I don't really see that as a throwaway.

Did anyone see Q92.9's TV commercial? It was running tonight during KDKA's 6:00 news breaks. They couldn't even get a "real" person to do the commercial. It was an animated blonde - comparable to the animated dog in the Edgar Snyder commercials.

Other AC stations such as in Philly are using that same method for commercials and are getting good results. I want to say they had them on their website at one point.

Kenhawk-

WSHH had one good book lately. One may even go so far as to suggest it was a FLUKE! But, that being said, I guess in the battle that was WLTJ and WSHH, eventually WSHH was having better numbers. But, WSHH is certainly not a strong station. They are very boring.

Hook up with a good salesperson and you're able to secure a dream home to give away.

To the poster who says Saul should lure Sheri Van Dyke away from 3WS? Really? You think she's that good?

I just want to know what happened to Gary and Beth in the morning - did they go to another radio station or what. This new format is horrible, the voice that announces the name and artist of each song is annoying! I miss Gary and Beth; and Amy doing the news. I'd like to switch to wherever they are - if anywhere yet.

I don't know, Raymond. You may consider WSHH boring, but keep in mind the demographics of this market. We are getting more and more populated with a 50+ radio audience. If you want proof, look at the school districts around the area. You have enrollment decreasing to the point where districts are considering consolidation to be able to survive (like 1992 when the first round of duopoly transactions took place). You're getting people who have moved out of this area years ago who are coming back after retirement because of a relatively low cost of living here.

WSHH is just what it was when it was playing instrumentals prior to 1988. All that's different is that it's vocals now.

They may have to wait out a non-compete, for which they're likely being paid.

Then why is WJAS going robojock?

Because it's VERY cost-effective, for one. WJAS serves a very niche audience, and if that can be accomplished with one less person on the payroll, so be it. The elimination of one shift would hardly be called going robojock. Names like Bill Cardille and Jack Bogut are all but guaranteed money with the 50+ affluent listeners. They may be trying to weather the WPTT storm by trimming costs elsewhere.
